These are the three prominent passages that deal directly with spiritual gifts. We will look at others, but we will focus are attention on these passages. The first and foremost question that we need to answer is, "what is a spiritual gift?" It wouldn't do us any good to proceed with the topic unless we knew what a spiritual gift is. Let's look at what spiritual gifts are NOT, and then proceed to what they are. 1) They are not natural talents or abilities. For example, there is no gift of cooking. There is no gift of singing anywhere in scripture. There is a great danger of confusing natural talents and abilities for spiritual gifts. There...

This morning we're continuing our series of messages on God's Gifts of Grace. God has given every one of His children a gift of grace! You ask, "Are you sure?" Oh .. I'm sure all right! 1 Peter 4.10, "As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another ..." 1 Corinthians 12.11, "But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills." Now the good news is that the Holy Spirit as assigned you a spiritual gift. The bad news is that some of you have never unwrapped your gift! In fact .. the word translated "gifts" in 1 Corinthians 12 comes from the same root word...

Question: How many ministers does CWBC have? 1? 4? Everyone? Nowhere does the Bible teach the pastor is the only minister in the church. The Bible teaches all Christians are ministers. READ 1 Peter 4:10-11. "Each one" received a gift. God is a giver. 1. GOD GAVE YOU GIFTS. THREE GIFTS GOD GIVES YOU THE MOMENT YOU TRUST JESUS CHRIST AS LORD AND SAVIOR ARE: 1. God gives you eternal life. When I open my life to Jesus Christ I am given eternal life. The Bible says, "The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." I never have to...

I was reading about a teenager named Hudson Taylor. One day, he had the afternoon off from school. And the whole house to himself. He decided to read something to pass the time. He found a pamphlet on his father's desk that said, ''It is Finished.'' Wondering what it was about, he started reading it. And he realized that Christ had finished the work that needed to be done for our salvation when he died on the cross for our sins. And then Hudson Taylor said, ''At that moment, I realized that there was nothing left for me to do but to fall down on my knees and accept this Savior and His salvation and to love Him forever.'' Later on...

Now, tonight we're talking about spiritual gifts so let's turn once again to I Corinthians 12, the 12th chapter of I Corinthians. We're going to be going from I Corinthians to Romans 12 again and again as we look at the matter of spiritual gifts. There are different lists of spiritual gifts in the Word of God and we're going to be looking at all the gifts that are listed. Last Wednesday night we talked about the desirability of spiritual gifts and why we ought to study spiritual gifts and why it's important to know what our individual gifts are. It will do many things. It will deepen your appreciation of God's love for you. It will broaden your concern. It will intensify your zeal. It will increase your appreciation of other...

Matthew 7:13-23 (NIV) "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. 15"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not...

Those two verses give us a rather concise and yet complete statement of the subject of spiritual gifts. The word, gift, in verse 10 is the word from which we get the word, charismatic, and it is a reference to the spiritual grace gifts which God gives through the Holy Spirit to every born again believer. If you have experienced the grace of God the Bible says God has given to you certain gifts which are manifestations of the grace of God in your life. In verse 11 it talks about the ability which God gives. That's almost a direct definition of spiritual gifts. Because a spiritual gift is a God-given ability to be a blessing to the Lord's...

This morning we are looking at being good managers of our spiritual gift. Our primary text is 1 Peter 4:10-11: This is sort of the ‘‘overarching passage’’ when it comes to spiritual gifts. Let’s look and see what the Apostle Peter has to say about this topic: TEXT: 1 Peter 4:10-11 When Peter says ‘‘as each has received a gift’’, what is he talking about? He is talking about a ‘‘spiritual gift’’. What is a spiritual gift? Here’s one definition: Spiritual gift: any talent or ability which is empowered by the Holy Spirit and able to be used in the ministry of the church. Wayne Grudem John MacArthur calls a spiritual gift…

We all want a message from God. We want to know what God is saying to us now. We want to know what plans God has for our future. We want to know our purpose in life. We want to know the direction that God is leading us. We want to hear from God for our lives. We see people running from church to church to church all in the quest of getting a word from God. Yet my Bible says that the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. I remember once as a young Christian, praying for direction about moving or taking a particular job that was being offered to me. I remember praying to the Lord and asking for specific...

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirits; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another...

ESV Psalm 115:1 ''Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!'' Introduction: What if I gave you the car of your dreams? It's a gift to you. You get to drive it around, enjoy its comfort, its speed, its beauty. BUT you have to drive me around wherever I want to go. What would you think about that? No wait, you gave it to me, and I want to go where I want to go, so people can see me drive it, so I can do whatever I want with it. As we continue our study of Spiritual gifts I want you to see that the gifts that God has given us are not for our own glory but for...

HOLY GHOST - I remember when I was a small child and I heard about this comforter. My home Church was King James only. So I didn't hear about the Holy Spirit, I heard about the Holy Ghost. That wasn't comforting to me at all. I remember laying in bed at night and praying that God would protect me from vampires, werewolves, monsters, and the Holy Ghost. EXPERIENCES IN CHARISMATIC CHURCH - Add to that the time my Dad and I went to a revival with my Church of God aunt. The Pastor was slaying everyone in the spirit. The only ones I knew in the Bible that got slain in the Spirit was Ananias...

Friends, I want to speak to you now on the subject of GIVING. Let us think about three things. First, our gifts to one another. Second, our gifts to Christ. Third, Christ's gifts to us. Giving is a great part of life---giving and receiving. God's Word says, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." That is really true. Gifts usually express love. Now I know that sometimes that is corrupted, as when people give gifts to another with an ulterior motive, for what they can receive back. The motives may be mixed; thinking of one's self rather than the other person. But what we are thinking about today is the subject of real...

If you have your Bible, please turn to 1st Corinthians chapter 12. I want to talk to you on this subject: Concerning Spiritual Gifts. Now in our family, gifts are an important thing, especially birthday gifts. Actually, before Debbie and I got married, she told me how important gifts were to her. And she said, ''I need a gift on every special occasion - on birthdays, Christmas, it goes without saying, anniversary, ground hog day. And she said, ''If I ever tell you it's okay to not get me a gift, I'm lying!'' It's just gifts. It's really important. One of her love languages is gifts. And so we've made a big deal out of the kids with their...

Introduction: Sometimes gifts can be dangerous things. I'll never forget the Christmas my two older cousins, Ronnie and Chuck, both got BB guns. From daybreak, when they unwrapped their weapons, until around noon when they were finally apprehended, these two went on a crime spree that terrorized that neighborhood. As I recall, their targets included at least three broken house windows, a windshield, two other kids, a Plastic Santa, and who knows how many cats that ran clear out of the country. My aunt was the kind who gave her kids an awful lot of freedom, and I can still hear her telling my mom, "Gee, I never thought...

A young couple had been married a few years. One day the husband came home from work to find his wife waiting at the door with a great big hug and kiss with a huge smile on her face. A little taken back the husband asked what was going on. She said she had a big surprise for him. The wife looked at her husband still grinning from ear to ear just giddy with excitement and said, ''Soon we will not be the only two people living in this house!'' Her husband swept her off her feet, swung her around, hugged her and kissed her and said, ''You have made me the happiest man alive!'' The wife looked back at him and...

I hope you have your Bibles open already to I Corinthians chapter number 12. We'll look tonight at various verses, we'll not go as far as Iwanted to, but we'll be around I Corinthians for awhile. As we begin our worship service, let's bow for prayer together.Father, we thank you for songs, we thank you for witness, we thank you for prayer, we thank you for worship. And now we wait expectantly for your proclaimed word. I trust, Lord, that if my mouth opens, it will be your words of interpretation. And what our ears hear we trust it will be your words of profound truth. Let me get out of the way. You know that personally I have nothing to say...

INTRODUCTION: As we enter into the year 1991, there are ominous challenges to our faith currently before us and also on the horizon. Uncertainty and even fear fill the air as we contemplate our world and what is and will be taking place. How we view and confront the issues before us is critical. As believers, we must deal with the reality as it is, but in a victorious and faith-filled manner. Today, we will deal with the major problems and challenges facing us and how we can have faith in dealing with them as we should. I. THE SEVEN GREATEST CHALLENGES TO OUR FAITH IN THE 90'S 1. THE UNITED STATES...

Message Truth: Every believer is engaged in an intense spiritual warfare for the mind. Satan's power is the lie. Our greatest defense is the truth of God. 2 Cor. 10:1 Now I, Paul, myself urge you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ --I who am meek when face to face with you, but bold toward you when absent! 2 I ask that when I am present I may not be bold with the confidence with which I propose to be courageous against some, who regard us as if we walked according to the flesh. 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, 4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely...
