NAMES OF GOD SERMON OUTLINES

by David Cawston

Before you can ever really know God as the El Shadai, the All-Sufficient One, you must come to know Him as Adonai, your Lord and Master. Do you realize how many people are disappointed with their Christianity? It does not seem to satisfy so they give themselves temporal things. Look at those who claim to be children of God. How many individuals do you see who live by Philippians 1:21? ''For me to live as Christ and to die is gain.'' Why are there so few? Commitment to the will of God ought to be the norm for every one of His children. The study of His name, Adonai, and the scriptures that relate to Him as Lord talk to you...

You have your Bibles please turn to Genesis chapter 17, Genesis chapter 17 we're going to talk about Almighty God today. How many in here like to learn, you like to learn new things? Anybody in here like to learn? I know when you're in school sometimes you don't think I really want to learn but most of us like to learn. Chuck Swindoll years and years ago had a little news article and he called the article ''Stuff I've learned'' and he asked some 5th grade boys some ten year old boys ''Hey, tell me some stuff that you've learned recently.'' And this is what he heard back, one...

On this Day of Hope Sunday, you need to know that: Heaven has a healer! He heals broken hearts for we read in Psalm 147.3, "He HEALS THE BROKENHEARTED and binds up their wounds." Heaven has a healer! He heals all our diseases for we read in Psalm 103.2-3, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, WHO HEALS ALL YOUR DISEASES," Heaven has a healer! We read in Exodus 15.26b, "for I am the LORD, your HEALER" which literally says, "I am Jehovah-Rapha," the God who heals, the God who restores, the God who heals. Heaven has a healer! He heals...

Ex:, I am known by many names, according to the relationship I have with someone, To some - I am Dr. McAlister (not my preference), Chuck, Brother Chuck, Pastor Chuck, Dad, To a...

'You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.'' Exodus 20:7 (NASB) Jehovah Jireh: The Lord is my provider Jehovah Rapha: The Lord is my healer Jehovah Shalom: The Lord is my peace ''The Lord will mediate between nations and will settle international disputes. They will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will no longer fight against nation, nor train for war anymore.'' Everyone marches to some banner, even if it is not written on a placard and held for all to see, all one has to do is look and listen to find out what banner they march to. Our very lives should reflect the very glory of God ... and thus show Him off as our banner. ILLUS: The other night I took our family dog for a walk. It was a full moon, so bright that we cast a shadow as we walked along. But of course the moon has no light of its own. It shone, and it lit us up so brightly, because the sun was shining on it. It merely reflected the sun's light. In the same way, we have no glory of our own, only such as is reflected from the light of Christ that shines...

INTRODUCTION: I heard about a young man who came up to his Pastor to tell him that he was going to get married. The Pastor said, ''Well congratulations son - that's wonderful - tell me about her''. The young man replied well Pastor she's a Christian, real involved in her Church, she comes from a great family, there's only one thing wrong with her, she's a butterhead.'' The Pastor said, ''Son, I'm not real sure I know what that is, what's a butterhead. She's pretty everywhere but her head.'' Sometimes a Christian can be right in every place but her head. The battle is most often won or lost in your mind. A.W. Tozer was correct when he said...

We've often heard it said, ''There is something in a name.'' I think that's true. It is especially true with Jesus. The truth of the matter is that there are over 256 names given in the Bible for Jesus. Just to mention a few; He is called the Advocate, Amen, Branch, Bread of Life, Bridegroom, Bright and Morning Star, Chief Shepherd, Consolation of Israel, Counsellor, Day Spring, Day Star, Faithful and True, King of Glory, Lamb of God, Potentate, Prince of Peace, Rose of Sharon, Shiloh, Wonderful...and many others. To me, there is one name that stands out above the others; it is the name, Jesus. HYMN: My...

''For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ; If so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together.'' We are through the spirit of Christ made heirs and joint heirs with Jesus. We have been given all the privileges that come with sonship. or daughtership. We are the sons and daughters of God, and He is our Father....

Knowing the names of God enables you to trust that He is aware of every area of your life; the difficulties that you encounter; and the problems that you face on an everyday basis. The continuing statement: He is all you need - He has all you need - He is doing all you need done...Now! is an ongoing awareness that God is truly Elohim. The Strong One who is keeping covenant with His people. If you know God as Elohim, then there will come a time when you will be tested on those truths. Whenever you learn a new Scriptural principle -- you will shortly be put to the test. You will discover whether you have learned intellectual fact or whether...

Does anybody know who the actor was who was reading the voice over? (Anthony Hopkins, who played Superman's father Jor-el in "Superman Returns"). And his dialogue in that points to the Biblical influence on the Superman myth. Some time back I read an interesting insight from CNN: They wrote: "Superman's father is "Jor-El" and his name is "Kal-El." Both names contain "El", the name for God in Hebrew....Steve Skelton, author of a book explaining the parallels between Superman and Jesus said, "It is so on the nose that anyone who has not caught on that Superman is a Christ figure, you think 'Who else could it be referring to?...

We are learning these days from God's Word about building godly homes. But let's face it: it is not an easy assignment! Our families are bombarded every day with the Devil's missiles. Landmines seem to be everywhere we step! There seems to be no let up in his attempt to divide, to damage and ultimately to destroy the family! Parents are asking, ''is it possible in our pagan society to build a godly home?'' I think I'll let Jesus answer that question. Matthew 19.26, ''With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'' Now when Jesus spoke those words .. He was answering a question from His disciples about salvation. They...

What a difference a single word can make. For several centuries the myth persisted that there are canals on the planet Mars. Where on earth would such an idea get started? Galileo of course. In his early observations of the planets using the brand new technology (for his day) of telescopes, he wrote in Italian of the water channels or "cannali." The Italian word was mistranslated by other Europeans into "cannals" instead of channels, and before too long you had writers conjuring up images of Mars as a kind of planetary Venice complete with gondoliers singing operatic "O solo mio" in Martian. Of course mistranslations abound in the Bible. Some...

Two of the Ten Commandments have to do with sins of speech-. This commandment - don't take God's name in vain and the ninth commandment - thou shalt not bear false witness to thy neighbor. One of God's most beautiful gifts to man is the gift of speech. Among many things this is one of the things that distinguishes man from the animals. God has given to man the ability to express himself and to express himself in marvelous, unusual ways. Isn't it a tragedy that man would take the beautiful gift of speech and would misuse that gift. To misuse that gift, for instance, to curse man. In James 3:9 the Bible says - therewith...

The last sentence in verse 26 says, "And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch." Has anybody ever called you a Christian? I know that you call yourself a Christian and I know that those who know of your affiliation with the church call you a Christian, but has anybody on the outside who did not know you, just on the basis of observation and detection ever called you a Christian? It is interesting to note that this term "Christian" that we use so frequently and familiarly to describe ourselves is found only three times in the bible and in effect it is never really used by Christians themselves with one exception It is....
