But Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by them-selves; and he went home marveling at what had happened (Luke 24:11). TOTALLY UNEXPECTED Have you even seen something totally unexpected? In Luke 24, we read about some other people who saw something totally unexpected: a tomb with no body. [Read Luke 24:1-12.] PERPLEXED The women were ''perplexed'' (v. 4) when they found the tomb of Jesus empty. The empty tomb still causes people to be perplexed. Some people are perplexed (like the women) because they don't know what to think of the empty tomb. Other...

Adrian Rogers and his wife, Joyce were in Russia before Lenin's tomb was torn down. It was an attraction for tourists to go through the mausoleum where Lenin's body was on display. You probably remember that his body was in an enclosed casket that was open for viewing and they had kept it this way for many years. Now you know that when Lenin was still in that encryptment, they would take him out every so often and they would wash him with a chemical. Of course, they never did this in public because as you know, you're not supposed to wash your dirty Lenin in public. People were given strict instructions that as they walked...

A man was blissfully driving along the highway, when he saw the Easter Bunny hopping across the middle of the road. He swerved to avoid hitting the Bunny, but unfortunately the rabbit jumped in front of his car and was hit. The basket of eggs went flying all over the place. Candy, too. The driver, being a sensitive man as well as an animal lover, pulled over to the side of the road, and got out to see what had become of the Bunny carrying the basket. Much to his dismay, the colorful Bunny was dead. The driver felt guilty and began to cry. A woman driving down the same highway saw the man crying on the side of the road and pulled...

1. Recently there has been a lot of talk and excitement about a documentary that aired on the Discovery Channel entitled The Lost Tomb of Jesus. On the official web site of the The Lost Tomb of Jesus it states: ''An incredible archaeological discovery in Israel changes history and shocks the world.'' ''2. The documentary was based on ten limestone ossuaries (bone boxes) dated to the first century, that were found in 1980 in an excavated tomb in the Jerusalem suburb of Talpiot. In Jesus day, when someone died, family members often wrapped the body in a shroud and placed it in a tomb carved out of rock. After a year or so...

Nobody saw Timothy McVeigh take 200 pounds of fertilizer and load it into his truck. Nobody saw him approach Oklahoma City and head towards the federal building and light the fuse. Nobody was there when he quickly walked away and that bomb blew up and 168 of our fellow Americans were instantly taken into eternity. Nobody saw it. No video recorded him. No tape recorders picked it up. Nobody could say they saw him on the scene. Yet a jury found him guilty. In just a few weeks, Timothy McViegh is going into eternity, and may God have mercy on his soul. He was found guilty, beyond a reasonable doubt, by a jury, because of...

INTRODUCTION: 1. Here in chapter 20, we find Mary Magdalene coming early in the morning to the tomb of Jesus. When she arrives, she is startled to find that the giant stone that had covered the entrance has been removed and the body of Jesus gone. a. Upon her discovery, Mary runs to tell the disciples, Peter and John. In (vs.2), she says, ''They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulcher, and we know not where they have laid him.''2. In the eyes of most people, Philip didn't know much. But he understood Easter. Philip was born with Downs Syndrome. He was a pleasant child--happy, it seemed--but increasingly aware of the difference between himself and other children. Philip went to Sunday school at the neighborhood church every week. His teacher taught the third-grade class with Philip and nine other eight-year-old boys and girls. You know eight-year-olds. And Philip, with his differences, was not readily accepted. But the teacher was creative, and he helped the group of eight-year-olds. They learned, they laughed, they played together. And they really...

This Easter we must all make a choice. Whether we will stand with the skeptics who say they have found the Lost Tomb of Jesus or do we stand with 2000 years of Christian scholarship and testimony and millions of Christians who believe in the empty tomb of Jesus? The importance of your answer is defined by Mark 1:16, ''Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.''What is the new attack on the literally bodily resurrection of Jesus from the dead in particular and on the Christian faith as well? Hundreds of ancient tombs have been discovered in Jerusalem, but one represents an attempt...

It was about 9 or 930 that morning when the crucified Jesus. The crucifixion itself followed up about 7 or 8 hours of betrayal and abuse. The abuse began when they arrested him and continue throughout the morning hours. As a part of the abuse they scourged him which left his body a bloody mess. They placed a crown of thorns on his head. The thorns in that crown were not like our rosebush thorns, those were 3 to 5 inches long and sharp as knives. Not only did they place that crown on his head, but they beat it down with his makeshift scepter until the blood flowed freely from his scalp (the most vascular part of the body)...
