We closed last week by saying that most Christian women would gladly submit to a man that is following Jesus' model in perfection - but then we admitted no man is following Jesus model in perfection. It's like this: One a scale of 1-10, 1 being a brand new Christian and 10 being Jesus - every man in this room is somewhere in the middle. Some are 1's some are 6's but no man in here is a 10.And notice in our text - neither husbands or wives is qualified. It doesn't say - Wives who find submission natural and easy, be subject to your godly spirit filled, loving husband. Ephesians 5:22 (NASB95)22 Wives, - That means wives who find this really easy...

Few people in the history of Christianity have suffered more for their faith and their faithfulness to Christ than the Apostle Paul. In Corinthians 11 Paul gives just a brief history of the suffering he had encountered for the cause of Christ. 11Corinthians 11:24-28 ''Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes, save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; in journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren...

When God looks down upon us humans who live on Earth He only sees two kinds of hearts: saved hearts and lost hearts. God's Word classifies everyone as either: having Christ or not. Listen to John: 1 John 5:12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. NKJV There are several types of behavior that distinguish between God's people (the saved) and Satan's people (the lost), but none is more clearly contrasted than: submission to authority (the saved) and a casting off of authority (the lost). As we turn a couple of short books towards the end, in Jude v.8 God reveals that key characteristics...

INTRODUCTION: In our lesson this evening, we will take close look at two key words; the word "submit" in (vs. 13a) and the word "subject" in (vs.18). Keep in mind; these Jewish believers were under the strain of severe persecution—both by the Jewish non-believers and the official Roman Government. The last thing they needed was added trouble because of rebellion against authority. When established authority is right and is not a violation of Scripture, then we are to obey. However, when, for example, the law of the land is wrong, then we must obey God, rather than the law (Acts 5:29). Again, there are times when nothing...

Story of man that came to the pastor and said, why do you always preach on the birth of Jesus and the resurrection of Jesus. Pastor sais ''you need to come to church more than just Christmas and Easter.''But what did Jesus do in his early years when he was here on earth? What was he known for in his home community? What skill was he trained to do? Mark 6:3 (NLT) Then they scoffed, ''He's just a carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon. And his sisters live right here among us.'' They were deeply offended and refused to believe in him. Carpenter! Let's look into this a little deeper. The chosen...

In Shakespeare's Merchant of Venus there were many suitors of Portia, a beautiful lady of wealth. There were suitors of noble birth and fame who wanted to marry her, but it had been decreed that her hand would be won the suitor who chose the right casket from three in her possession. Inside the winning casket was her portrait which indicated she was the prize of the right choice. There was a silver casket with the inscription, "Who chooseth me shall get as much as deserve." Inside the silver casket was a fool's head. There was a golden casket with the inscription, "Who chooseth me shall get what many men desire." Inside the...

Many of you are familiar with William Ernest Henley's poem, Invictus, which he wrote it after having his leg amputated and suffering from tuberculosis. High school students are often required to memorize it, there was a movie about Nelson Mandella By that name, and it's often quoted on the back of athletic shirts And the reason it has become so popular is because its a celebration of the indomitable human spirit to persevere and overcome obstacles that one faces by chance and circumstance. It's an inspiring poem in the midst of adversity and competition. I will not give up. My head is bloody but unbowed. I am the master of my fate...

Back in 2010 an Idaho man was given two misdemeanor citations for keeping Western rattlesnakes in his apartment. Officials from the Department of Fish and Game say that the man had twenty-five rattlesnakes in a five-gallon pail. He had also given several away and had eaten two of the snakes. The thirty-eight year-old said that he did not know it was illegal to hunt rattlesnake without a license in the state. He also stated that he had been trying to find a buyer for the snakes, including calling a research center that milks snakes for their venom.  We may not keep literal rattlesnakes in our homes, but many of us let...

Well, today we are in the book of James 4:13-17 and we are going to look at the subject "Faith For The Future". This is the third in a series of messages about faith for the future. A lot of people look at the future with fear and trepidation and that is because we don't know what the future holds. But we do know who holds the future and we must never forget that. We must never forget that the Lord is on the throne, that God is in control. But there are some cautions however as we face the future that we ought to hear from God's Word. And there are three mistakes that we can make when we think about the future. We are going to look...

Introduction: As real as any law of the universe God has set into motion is the law of order. Everything we see which has not been perverted by Satan or sin is created by God in perfect order. Within the law of order is the principle of submission, which order is impossible without. In fact, wherever chaos and confusion reign, you will never find the principle of submission being honored. 1. (Romans 13:1-6 NIV) (1) Everyone mist submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. (2) Consequently, he who rebels against the...

We often sanction and promote competing authority structures within a family system, workplace, or church. One is the official structure, while the hidden structures work behind the scenes, often in opposition to the official one. In a male dominated society, the man of the house is often the figurehead of power and authority, while the woman of the house takes charge behind the scenes or in the man’s absence, often circumventing his demands without his knowledge. The result is a struggle for power, a system of inherent conflict as individuals vie for power, authority, and dominance. None of us really want to lay down our lives in...

Did I detect a little rise in blood pressure when that Scripture was read?! Believe me, mine is up a little bit, too! So pray for me this morning! You know, this is one of those passages that really tests our commitment to expository preaching. Because if our approach were to skip anything in the Bible that's controversial, we would definitely skip right over this one, right? But we believe that all Scripture is inspired by God, and that God has something to say to us from this passage. So we're going to take it on! Before we get into it, let me just say ''Thank You'' to everyone who stepped up and took a gift tag from our Loaves and Fishes...

Intro: A marriage contract drawn up by Albert Einstein: With his marriage disintegrating and already participating in extra-marital affairs, Einstein made a last-ditch effort to keep his marriage somewhat intact, even if only for the sake of the children. This is the contract of conditions he sent to his wife who wanted to return home for the children:''A. You will make sure that my clothes and laundry are kept in good order; that I will receive my three meals regularly in my room; that my bedroom and study are kept neat, and especially that my desk is left for my use only. B. You will renounce all personal relations with me insofar as they are not...

Now friends, if you have your Bibles, turn with me to Ephesians, chapter 5, and we are studying today a very important passage of God's Word. I am speaking about THE HOME. We want to think about the CHRISTIAN HOME, the home that God blesses. THE HOME is the greatest institution on the face of the earth. Today we are in a time of national crisis. Today we are worried about the condition of the world. We are worried about war. We are worried about our nation. But actually the fundamental problem is not with our nation. The results of the problem SHOW UP in the nation, but fundamentally it is not the nation, as such, that is...

When Bob Dole, one of the most powerful U. S. Senators we've ever had, was running for President an article about Bob and Elizabeth Dole appeared in a magazine. It included a picture of Bob and Elizabeth making the bed together. A male reader of the magazine wrote to Bob Dole and expressed his disappointment that Bob Dole would allow himself to be photographed in such a "compromising" position, making the bed with his wife. Senator Dole wrote back to the man, saying, "You don't know the half of it; the only reason Elizabeth was helping at all was because the photographer was in the room." There are a lot of...

A) A Defined Gateway (verse 21) God has an established order of operations for everything that He has created. When we rearrange this order, it is then that things get out of order, so to speak. When everything is in proper godly order, there is not a more beautiful sight or sound to behold. Modern men scratch their heads and and wonder why our society is filled with crime and corruption, but the answer lies in the fact that society is out of sync with God's created order. We can be very thankful that the order of nature, such as the sun shining, has not been placed in man's control, because everything that man has been entrusted...

Introduction:We have learned many wonderful things in the Book of Ephesians. If you will remember, Paul is writing this great Epistle from prison in Rome. His only crime is preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ! Now he has time to write four Epistles while bound in this first of two imprisonments that he will endure. Paul wrote Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon while in prison during this imprisonment. In this passage that we will examine tonight, He commands the Christian to be empowered by the Holy Spirit of God, and this is an exciting passage for the child of God who is striving to serve the Lord Jesus Christ...

Guy/girl friendships and relationships are important parts of life. Think about it - they comprise nearly half of the relational opportunities out there, and for most people, a friendship between genders ends up being one of the most significant in their lives. But how are we supposed to live in relationship with a completely different, unavoidably interesting opposite gender? Your model for guy/girl relationships doesn't come out of nowhere - so who or what gives you relationship advice? It may sound strange, but for Christians, Jesus is our main relationship expert. After all, He restored the most important relationship any of us have - our...
