SERMONS ON SAMSON AND DELILAH

SAMSON AND DELILAH SERMON OUTLINES

by Jeff Lynn

This morning we are concluding not only this two-part message on the destruction of Samson, but the conclusion of this entire series. As I mentioned last week, it may be that you are someone who is being used by God, but you have this besetting sin or an Achilles' heel that keeps dogging you or leading you to destruction. Or, it could be that you WANT to be used by God in a significant way, but you have destructive tendencies. We've probably all known people who had so much to offer, and seemingly everything going for them, only to have it wasted because of their destructive behavior. Samson was a prime example of...

Hebrews 11:32; Judges 16 Again, we look at the story of Samson, whose life we've been exploring in several segments, realizing that he, like all who live in the world, are challenged by sin. And yet, by God's grace, even at the very end of his life he was enabled to be called a Hero of the Faith. Let's look at the awful tragedy which preceded that marvelous touch of grace. In Hebrews 11:32 we read about the heroes of faith, and Samson was included. It's hard to understand, but I think as we study Judges, chapter 16, it will become more clear to us.Sometime ago, while preaching a series of messages on the family, I was reading a...

Our God is jealous and He is Holy. The sins He hated in the Old Testament, He hates in the New Testament. What would offend someone who loved us so much that He wants us to be utterly loyal to Him? We become an enemy of God when we become friendly with the world. And what is friendship with the world again? As for the lusts of the flesh "Lust of flesh" is being tempted by our flesh to chase pleasures, this equals the cravings of the body. These are all of the sensual temptations. This is lust for another person. The desire to have and enjoy the body of an individual, either mentally or physically, even though such pleasure...

Now, when I think of Samson, I think of someone who is big; I think of someone who is strong; I think of someone whose very presence is intimidating. I'm reminded of a story from the wild west. A small, sickly looking guy was hired as a bartender. The saloon owner gave him a word of warning. ''Drop everything and run for your life if ever you hear that Big John is coming to town.''The man worked several months without any problem. Then one day a cowboy rushed into the saloon shouting, ''Big John is a'comin'.''He was in such a hurry to leave, he knocked the small bartender to the floor on his way out. Before the bartender could...

One of the best things Evelyn and I discovered when we moved from New Jersey to Iowa was ''open houses'' for high school graduates. We didn't have those when we graduated from our high schools back East. Up go the displays of school pictures, ribbons, trophies and awards. Out comes the food. And if you look into the eyes of the parents you can sense a mixture of pride, relief, joy, and hope and a touch of anxiety about what's to come. One of the famous stories in the Bible about young people and their potential is the story of Samson and Delilah. Samson's story starts in Chapter 13 in the Book of Judges and Delilah comes in at the...

INTRO. A story of tragedy because of what God raised him up to be and what he could have been. God's people in bondage (v. 1) They did evil ''again'' in the sight of the Lord. God raised up a deliverer (v. 3-5) He came from the commitment of purity. ''No strong drink, no unclean food (of parents and of child) God raised up his will out of this kind of background then and now! God received the glory - They sought to honor the messenger (v. 15) but instead the angel of the Lord called for an offering to the Lord (v. 16). God fulfilled his promise out of bareness - a barren nation, a barren womb. Yet God caused it to be! (But God - Book...

This is our third in a series of three messages in the book of Judges about Samson. This brings it to the climax in real tragedy. Samson becomes a newsboy. He has some news to deliver for us in these verses. Samson was a man who could be controlled by no man and yet he was a man who could not control himself. Samson was a man who could win wonderful victories over his enemies on the outside and yet Samson was not able to win the victories against the enemies that were going on on the inside. Samson's life becomes a classic illustration of what Paul means when he warns ''lest we have preached to others we become a castaway....

JESUS CHRIST exhorted His followers of every generation to ''Go... into all the world.'' Yet, both the Old and New Testaments exhort God's people to ''Come out from among the'' (II Cor. 6:17). The coming out preseeds the going forth in order to be equipped. The separation must preseed the sending. John, the beloved, saidn, ''Do not love the world, nor the things of the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him'' (I John 2:5). James said, ''Don't you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world constitutes himself an enemy of God'' (James 4:4). Some...

This sermon contains a fully alliterated outline, with sub-points. Sin Unto Death - Charles Spurgeon You need not be curious to enquire what this unpardonable sin is. I will give you an old illustration of mine concerning it. You may sometimes have seen a notice put up on certain estates in the country, ''Man-traps and spring guns set here,'' but, if so, did you ever go round to the front door of the mansion, and say, ''If you please will you tell me where the man-traps are, and whereabouts the spring guns are set?'' If you had asked that question, the answer would have been, ''It is the very purpose of this warning not to tell you where they are, for...

INTRODUCTION: Stupid things people do, especially criminals. Crime shows on TV often portray them as smart and devious, the truth is they often just plain dumb.Portsmouth, RI Police charged Gregory Rosa, 25, with a string of vending machine robberies in January when he (1) fled from police inexplicably when they spotted him loitering around a vending machine and (2) later tried to post his $400 bail in coins. Karen Lee Joachimmi, 20, was arrested in Lake City, Florida for robbery of a Howard Johnson's motel. She was armed with only an electric chain saw, which was not plugged in. The Ann Arbor News crime column...

INTRO: It is evident from researching Samson's history, that this was no ordinary, run of the mill, servant of God. His history reveals: 1) The Barrenness that was overcome (Judges 13: 2-3) It would seem that barrenness is a platform upon which God launches his greatest servants. (Isaac, John the Baptist). Barrenness and it's fruit also reveals the long awaited mercies of God to his people in bondage. 2) The Barriers that were overthrown Chapter 13: 24 tells us that the Lord "blessed" Samson, but then verse 25 relates that "the spirit of the Lord began to move him". We need to understand that the Lord's blessings are the...

Samson was a gifted leader. He was the head of his country and the judge in Israel. Yet he was brought down by his own lust. The mighty Philistine army could not bring him down. In fact, he killed a thousand of them at one time with no weapon other than the old bleached dry jawbone of a donkey. But what the Philistines could not do, his lust did: he was brought down by a woman. This is not the only time. He has a recurring weakness in his life. He seems to learn nothing from history. Of course, you've heard that saying, and it's true, those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. So he hasn't learned from the past...

1. We have now come to the closing scene in the life of Samson and the end of our studies of his life. Our study has been a series of up's and down's. As I have said in the past, his is a life of bright spots and dark blots. Unfortunately, there have been more dark blots than bright spots. In Judges 16:31 it is stated that Samson ''judged Israel for twenty years'' (cp. 15:20). The Scripture does not disclose all his acts during those twenty-years, so perhaps there are more bright spots. It would seem that the record God has given us of his life is to provide more lessons from his failures than his successes. If this is the case, there is certainly...
