SACRIFICE SERMON OUTLINES

Now, friends, if you have your Bibles, turn with me to Genesis 3:21 and we are beginning a study of the wonderful truth of Sacrifice For Sin, or what Sacrifice means in the Bible, what the meaning of the Blood is, in the Bible, and the meaning of the Cross. We find it all through the Bible. Someone has well said that there are two threads that run through the Bible. One is the golden thread of the Coming of the Lord, and the other is the scarlet thread of the Blood Atonement, the fact that God says (as recorded in the New Testament) that without the shedding of blood there is NO FORGIVENESS of sins. Along with that passage, ''Without...

INTRODUCTION: This morning, I want to discuss with you two very important subjects; stewardship and sacrifice. We all understand what stewardship is; it is to be a steward or caretaker of something. To sacrifice means to give up something, usually at great expense or cost to ourselves. Keep in mind; God has never asked the unsaved world to sacrifice anything, but He has said that we, as believers, are to be willing to sacrifice-this is a commitment or stewardship given to all Christians. In Luke 9:23, Jesus said, ''If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.'' QUOTE:...

The true story is told of a banquet where a famous religious leader found himself seated next to an extremely beautiful woman who was wearing a gown with a perilously low neckline. He introduced himself to her… and then offered her an apple. She was a little surprised, but he explained with a smile, ''Please do take it, Madame. It was only after Eve ate the apple that she became aware of how little she had on.''APPLY: Someone asked me recently: Why was it, that after Adam and Eve ate of the fruit, the first thing they noticed was that they were naked? Weren't they ALWAYS naked? Well, yes. But before they ate of the tree they didn't think...

Our verse for this series has been Deuteronomy 26. ''There God said to the children of Israel, 'When you come into the land take some of the first fruits of all that you produced. Put them in a basket, place the basket before the Lord your God and bow down before Him.'' And that's what we are going to do tonight. Now, the text for today is 2 Corinthians chapter 8. Beginning in verse 1 the Bible says, ''And now brothers we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches. Out of the most severe trial they are overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For you know the grace of our...

1. Last Sunday morning we saw from the words of Peter that as believers we are priests and as priests we are to offer spiritual sacrifices. As we continue that thought I point out that Peter speaks of the believer as a ''holy'' priests (2:5), and ''royal'' priests'' (2:9). 2. As a holy priesthood we see our purpose. The word ''holy'' speaks of that which is sacred. The priests in the Old Testament were sacred in the sense they were set apart with a divine purpose. A specific part of that purpose was to offer sacrifices to God. As a holy priesthood one great purpose of the Christian life is the offering of spiritual sacrifices to God. 3. As a royal...

Pastor Gerald D. Branch Copyright 2000 Feel free to use this message in your ministry. In those instances where the work of another may have helped give inspiration, I have tried to give credit to such. This message may not be reposted or published without permission If you and I know Jesus Christ, as our Savior and Lord, THEN, does it not then not make sense, THAT WE, whom He came into this world to save, to redeem us to Himself as we're told in Titus 2:14- ''...who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people''-does it not therefore make sense that you and...

Let's open in our Bibles to continue our study of James by opening to Hebrews 11. Now isn't that interesting? That should get your attention. We are looking this morning as we continue through the book of James at the attitude that these first century Christians had that made them so powerful. I think that in order to understand the words of James we have to see the background of Hebrews 11 and specifically verse 10. The writer of Hebrews is eloquently writing about the reality of something that those first century saints possessed. They knew that devotion to God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit issued forth into a life of sacrifice...

Message Truth: The scripture teaches us that Jesus is not so impressed by the amount we may give, but He is interested in our heart, motive, and passion. (Mat 26:6-13 NIV) While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, {7} a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table. {8} When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. "Why this waste?" they asked. {9} "This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor." {10} Aware of this, Jesus said to them, "Why are you bothering this woman...

This morning we're continuing our series of messages through the Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes. So take God's infallible word and join me in the book of Ecclesiastes. What we find in Ecclesiastes is the testimony of King Solomon. Like some of you, Solomon set out on a Quest for the Best! He looked at everything he had accumulated and accomplished and realized that none of those things had brought any lasting satisfaction in his life. Now in his Quest for the Best, Solomon pulled out all the stops in his search for satisfaction and purpose. He tried Relationships He had 700 wives! He reminds me of that man in Missouri who was married...

Intro: Very few preachers, or at least those that I have had the privilege of either reading behind or listening to, have ever combined verse 3 with verses 1 and 2. However, verse one deals with what it takes to make a suitable sacrifice of our bodies to the Lord. Verse 2 deals with what it takes to make a solid separation from the life of the world. Verse 3 deals with what it takes to maintain sensible steps that will ensure our success. When we take a broad section of preachers today, we can readily see that the pitfalls of verse 3 is the main reason why they are not in compliance with verses 1 and 2. The fallacy of the days that we are living...

Tomorrow we celebrate Memorial Day. For many of you it is a much needed, long awaited, 3-day weekend. And tomorrow grills will be fired up. Pools will open. Friends will gather. And the summer will officially begin. Don’t forget, however, that when we bring out the grills, the deck furniture, the bathing suits and more, we must also welcome in the mosquitos and the humidity. You can’t have one without the other! 2. As exciting as all of this is, minus the mosquitos and the humidity, however, we all know that Memorial Day is much more than burgers, pools, beaches, and friends. Memorial Day marks a day of...

Introduction: In just a few days most of the students who are present this morning will begin the process of final semester exams. Every time I go back to the seminary campus I am reminded once again of the intense times of preparation, study, and testing. Little did I know during those days that those tests (academic) would be some of the easier test of life. All of life is filled with tests, however, most of them are far more difficult than the classroom setting. Letting go is difficult to do. Gen. 22:1 Now it came about after these things, that God tested Abraham. Tested conveys intensity. Music's equivalent is the fortissimo. It always conveys...

We live in a world where it is acceptable and common to be self-centered. I mean after all, selfies are the most popular thing that people are doing. We live in a society that does not benefit from the value of living a selfless life. Jesus said, ''it is more blessed to give than to receive.'' In a culture of social media, we have become less social and more me-focused. Millenials are OK with relating to each other through a device rather than with a conversation. We hide behind text messages because we don't even want to talk on the phone anymore, let alone confront issues head on or to deal with people face-to-face. We want to show our...

1. In both the Old and New Testaments you find many references to the priest and the priesthood. In the Old Testament the priesthood involved a specific family. Under Levitical arrangements the priesthood was limited to one tribe, the tribe of Levi, and to only one family of that tribe, the family of Aaron. Yet in the New Testament we find that the priesthood involves a spiritual family. 2. We read in 1 Peter 2:9, ''But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:'' Peter tells us that every person that...

INTRODUCTION: 1. Last week we talked about "Stewardship and Steadfastness--"dealing with our faith--both "the" faith (what we believe), and our personal faith, how we live--trusting and believing God in every detail of life. There must be steadfastness in these areas of life. It is a stewardship responsibility given to us by God. 2. This evening we are going to discuss "Stewardship and Sacrifice." Sacrifice is a stewardship responsibility. God has never asked the unsaved world to sacrifice anything, but He has said that we, as believers, are to be willing to sacrifice--this is a commitment given to all Christians. In Luke...

INTRODUCTION: We are at a major turning point in the book of Romans. Someone has compared Romans 1-11 to the closest thing to a Systematic Theology that we have from the Ancient World. If that is true, the remainder of Romans could be compared to a first century Christian Living best seller. Paul is teaching us how the truth of Romans 1-11 should affect our practical daily behavior. In this chapter Paul takes advantage of one of the most powerful tools for teaching, learning and living known to mankind - the Metaphor. A Metaphor is a word or word picture that sums up a perspective or an emotion. William Shakespeare said, "All...

One of the subtle ironies in the not so subtle movie, "Dead Man Walking" was that at the scene of the man's execution by lethal injection, the movie's producer was careful to show how technicians used standard surgical preparation to sterilize the site of the injection. Now for most people sterilizing the injection site is a good thing because it helps us avoid later infection, but what good does it do a man who is about to be murdered by the state to have his arm prepared to prevent later infections? For this man about to be executed, "later" had no meaning. Isn't that just human nature to ritualize and observe all kinds...

Are you admiring the perfect sacrifice of Jesus? Has the depth of His love and sacrifice filled your soul so full it is overflowing? There is a place of eternal calm, unleashing tranquility, perfect peace, endless day... That place is the center of the universe, the throne of God... To that location John transports us from Patmos' salt mines to heavens highest point.. In 1989 a hurricane swept through New England, for hour after hour the winds increased until trees were snapping. Then it happened, the calm at the eye of the storm. A perfect pool of quiet between the storms. Rev. 4-5 are a calm between two storms, the perfect peace which always...
