ROMANS SERMON OUTLINES

by Daniel Rodgers

INTRODUCTION: This evening, I would like to begin an in-depth study of the book of Romans; but before we come to our outline, let me give you a little background information. The author: The author is the Apostle Paul, which is evident from his name at the very beginning of the letter (vs. 1). Paul writes this letter from Corinth, during his third missionary journey. The date: The date of writing is approximately A.D. 57. The recipients: The recipients are the saints at Rome, both Jew and Gentile. The purpose: In his letter, Paul was preparing the believers at Rome for his visit; he had never been to Rome before. No doubt, the church...

The Hebrew Race and The Heavenly Race in the Sight of God AUTHORSHIP: The Apostle Paul. Paul had not been to Rome when he wrote the epistles to the church there, but he planned to go as soon as the occasion presented itself. (Romans 1:10,13; 15:23-24,28) He wrote the letter from Corinth, (16:1) while on his third missionary journey during the "three months" referred to in Acts 20:3, just before his final visit to Jerusalem. Paul's great ambition, to preach in Rome, was fulfilled in an unexpected way. He went there as a prisoner. THEME: The righteousness of God. Martin Luther, the architect of the...

Open with me to our starting place for Biblical Convictions, Romans 13. As Paul sat to write perhaps the clearest words to frame the Biblical convictions of a Citizen of Heaven, living on earth--he was sitting in Corinth. Looking down across the city must have grieved his soul. Paul lived around gymnasiums filled with nude men were wrestling, boxing, and sprinting. In the distance seeing the men and women going into the bath houses, brothels, and heading up the trail to the shrine prostitutes up on the acro-corinthus must have even more grieved his Spirit filled heart. Just as it grieved the Lord He served. Just a couple of...

One of the most familiar verses in the N.T. is Romans 8:28: "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose." 2. Romans 8:28 assures that God has a purpose for our life and that all things have a purpose in our life. Romans 8:28 has many times comforted, calmed, and challenged our heart. 3. The O.T. equivalent to Romans 8:28 is found in Genesis 50:20. 4. Background: The Funeral of Joseph's Father The Fear of Joseph's Family 5. What was Joseph's answer to his brother's fears? One of the most thrilling truths we find in the Bible. 1. THE PROBLEMS...

So what is the gospel? The word gospel is translated, GOOD NEWS. Now if there is good new to proclaim, and there is in this message of the gospel, then it must mean that there is BAD NEWS, and there is certainly plenty of that in human history. What I want to do is to first address the bad news and then conclude with the good news from God to all sinners. We must all bear in mind that the entire world is in turmoil and wickedness and unless you have decided long ago to deny reality then the reality of turmoil is irrefutable. Now COMMON SENSE would cause any man or woman to conclude that since the world is in such turmoil...

The Epistle to the Romans has been called the magnum opus of the apostle Paul. Martin Luther called it the "true masterpiece of the New Testament," and William R. Newell declared, "Romans is the Gospel." I personally believe that every believer ought to spend more time reading the Epistle to the Romans than any other portion of the Word of God. I long to be able to master, to a certain extent, the Epistle to the Romans. I have not arrived yet, I can assure you. But one of the reasons I love to teach it and preach from it is that I want to know more...

OPEN: We've been talking about iPods the past few weeks, and as we've mentioned before iPods are a wondrous playthings, capable of storing and playing thousands of your personal favorite songs at the touch of button. But iPods do not magically perform this service. They need power. Where do iPods get their power from? (batteries). That's right, just like numerous other electric devices, iPods run on batteries. Fortunately, due to the wonder of science, iPods are powered by rechargeable lithium-ion batteries that can play music on some iPods for up to 14 hours on a charge. And these wondrous power sources can be...

We are in the Book of Romans. We have made it to begin Chapter Three -- a great -- great chapter. It gets better as we move through the third chapter of Romans and it gets better as we move on through. You are in the hardest section of Romans now. There are a couple of other hard parts in the middle of it. This is the part that we have to kind of wade through but it has so much for us and we want to just get what God has for us as we look at this third chapter. Our key verse is 3:9. Hans Christian Anderson has a story about an emperor who was rather vain and he was into appearance and clothing and those these...

Now, friends, if you have your Bibles, I want you to turn with me to the Epistle to the Romans. You know this is one of the most remarkable books in all the Bible. The Epistle to the Romans was written to us that we might believe on Christ, and that believing, we might be saved. There is no document in the world that is as important to us as the Epistle to the Romans, because it explains God's great plan of salvation, very, very clearly. Now in considering this marvelous book there are some things we need to understand about it. First of all, it was written about A. D. 58, within thirty years of the death of Jesus Christ, in the early...

INTRODUCTION: We are at a major turning point in the book of Romans. Someone has compared Romans 1-11 to the closest thing to a Systematic Theology that we have from the Ancient World. If that is true, the remainder of Romans could be compared to a first century Christian Living best seller. Paul is teaching us how the truth of Romans 1-11 should affect our practical daily behavior. In this chapter Paul takes advantage of one of the most powerful tools for teaching, learning and living known to mankind - the Metaphor. A Metaphor is a word or word picture that sums up a perspective or an emotion. William Shakespeare said, "All...

Grigory Yefimovich was a Russian monk whom most of you know more popularly by his nick name Rasputin. He had a nefarious influence over Czar Nicholas the II and his wife Alexandra because of his reportedly mystical healing influences over their young son, who was to become the future Czar of russia. They saw him in the courts as a humble and mystical man of God, who supposedly had an uncanny ability to heal and predict the future but when Nicholas II left to lead his troops during WWI, Rasputin's true colors emerged. Exerting a massive amount of influence over the Czar's wife (whether it be by hypnosis or other...

INTRODUCTION: We're in a sermon series about God's grace and we started with a clip from Oliver Twist in which he raises his bowl in the lunchroom and asks for ''more''. So, we posed the question: Is there more blessing that is available to me from God than I am currently receiving? The answer is ''yes'', and it is found in mining the motherlode of spiritual treasure found in the doctrine of God's grace. In the second message we talked about the two sides of God's nature that came into conflict, or tension, when sin entered the picture. Those two sides of God's nature were what? HOLINESS and LOVE. When HOLINESS meets sin, it morphs into WRATH. When God's LOVE MEETS sin...

We are beginning a brand-new sermon series today WHO WE LOVE, HOW WE LIVE about what it means to worship the Lord. What is worship? First, some popular misconceptions about Worship:- It is just the beginning part of the service when the worship team sings, and we listen. - It is just about singing songs, and since I can't sing, I really can't worship.- The style of worship is what makes it worship. (''If it isn't my style, it isn't worship.'')- Worship must be felt in order to be worship. (''I'll respond in worship as soon as I feel something,'' or ''If I am not feeling anything, it means I'm not worshiping 'hard' enough'')...

What's the most important letter you've ever read? A baby announcement? A college acceptance letter? Maybe a Dear John letter? Or how about a friendly letter from the IRS requesting an audit? Perhaps some of you will remember receiving a draft notice? If you like great endings, you might try reading Lost Letter, by Neil Mulligan. It's the story of a woman who never knew her father, who cared for her mother just before she died, and a love-letter her father wrote before he died in WW2. During WW2, Mary McDougal's father fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He wrote a letter which the Army lost, and it wasn't discovered...

Happy Resurrection Day to Cross Church! Maybe you grew up thinking miracles happened a longtime ago, if at all. Over the course of the next few weeks, we'll introduce you to both ancient miracles and modern ones. But if you're looking for a miracle, you need not look any further than the empty tomb. If you're looking for a miracle, look no further than Jesus rising from the grave. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is a miracle of the highest order. The resurrection changes everything. And it's through Jesus' resurrection that you can experience real, deep, meaningful, and permanent change. That's what empty tomb...

We continue our series entitled, Unstoppable: 40 Days of Breakthrough Faith. I hope and pray that this series has been an encouragement to you and your family. I pray that it has increased your faith and challenged you to walk with God more faithfully. Today, we come to something that is central to our faith, the gospel. Everyone has faith in something, but the gospel reveals the central tenets and basic foundations of our faith. The gospel sets us apart from every other belief system and religious structure. The gospel distinguishes Christ followers from every other religious endeavor. We've talked about what our faith is...

Would you take your bibles please this morning and turn to Romans chapter ten and if you need a bible there may be one there in the pew rack before you. God's holy word Romans chapter ten. I want to begin reading in verse one. "Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to...

Last week I asked you to select a chapter that we might study tonight. Brother Tom Brown, I believe it was, suggested that we study Romans, chapter 8, and I agreed. If I had to pick out five or six of the greatest chapters in the Word of God, I would probably include Romans, chapter 8, among those great, powerful chapters of the Bible. There is John 3, John 15, I Corinthians 15, Philippians 2, Psalm 23, Isaiah 53 and Romans 8. Well, that's more than five. Actually, there are 1189 chapters in the Bible and I like all of them. But truly Romans 8 is one of the great chapters in the Word of God. Now, let's begin by just sort of doing an...

A young boy came to church one cold winter day to get out of the blowing snow. He had been trying to sell newspapers but not a single customer had passed by because of the weather. He slipped into the back of the church, just hoping to get warm and catch up on his sleep. Though the Sunday crowd was slim, the boy really paid attention to the sermon and was greatly moved by it. When the pastor was done, he called for the offering. The ushers went from row to row, and when the offering plate came to the boy, he stared at it for a while and then put it on the floor. He then did something very strange and very beautiful....

Definition: The church is the community of all true believers for all time. This definition understands the church to be made of all those who are truly saved. If you were here last week we began a sermon series on the church that we are going to be walking through for the rest of the summer, and our goal in this series is to be as clear as we can be on what the church is, who the church, and how the church behaves… We call this branch of theology, ecclesiology, which is the theology of the church. And what we are trying to do every week is to find patterns in the book of Acts and in the whole New Testament in the hopes of...
