PAUL SERMON OUTLINES

by Jerry Vines

There are two great prayers given to us by Paul in the letter to the Ephesians. One of those prayers is recorded in the opening chapter, chapter 1. Now, here is the second prayer. The first prayer is a prayer that we may know. In the middle of verse 18, chapter 1, he says "that ye may know." It is a prayer that we may know. We look now at the third chapter at this great prayer. In the 18th verse of that chapter he prays that we may be able to comprehend. Chapter 1 - a prayer for knowing. Chapter 3 - a prayer for being. He wants us to know what we are in Jesus Christ in chapter 1. In chapter 3 he now wants us to be what we are...

Paul is speaking of himself in the third person...and he is giving his personal testimony of the time when he was caught up into the third heaven. He says it happened 14 years ago and as you count back and study the Book of Acts, it is probable that this took place on his first missionary journey and perhaps when he was stoned at Lystra and left for dead...maybe that's when the Lord caught him up into the third heaven and gave him a glimpse of that...we don't know that for certain. But, in these opening verses we need to understand why Paul is including this. The first few verses, Paul is speaking about of his...

As we approach the 17th chapter, the Apostle Paul, along with his friend and co-missionary, Silas, have just been released from jail in Philippi. Actually, God did the releasing He shattered the jail by an earthquake. Paul never quit and never gave up! After deliverance thru an earthquake from the prison at Philippi, most would have decided to go back home, but Paul and Silas continued preaching the gospel. As we come to Chapter 17, Paul and Silas and Timothy have left Philippi after a harrowing experience. Paul and Silas having been beaten with rods and just bruised and bloodied and had been thrown in a dark inner dungeon...

As we have looked at these passages in Romans over the past year we have seen many aspects of who we are and what we should believe as Christians. Paul in the beginning does not take that much time to introduce himself to the people of the church at Rome. Remember, this is one church that Paul wrote to that he had never visited. In fact we will see in these verses that the closest Paul had been to Rome was Illyricum, which was across the water from Italy in the Roman Province of Macedonia. In chapter 1 verse 1 Paul wrote, "Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel...

We live in a day of confusion and uncertainty. Many people seem to be bewildered and perplexed as they stand before circumstances over which they have absolutely no control. But I'm reminded of a Peanuts cartoon strip in which Lucy and Linus are staring out the window watching it rain. The conversation goes like this: Lucy: "Boy! Look at it pour. What if it floods the whole world?" Linus: "It won't. In Genesis 9 God promised Noah that would never happen again. The sign of that promise is the rainbow."Lucy, turning back to the window with a big smile: "You've taken a great load off my mind."Linus: "Sound theology has a way of...

INTRODUCTION: The book of Philippians is a book written by Paul in order to encourage and exhort the brethren. What's interesting is that Paul was writing from a prison cell, and here he is encouraging others. When we think we have it so bad, we need to be reminded that there is always someone who has it worse than we do. From the four verses I have selected, we find three things in Paul's exhortation or directives to the believers. 1. Please notice the first word in vs. 1, the word, therefore. The word "therefore" takes us back to the last two verses of chapter 23, verses 20, 21: "For our conversation is in heaven; from...

And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee (Acts 24:25). The power of the Gospel appears in marvelous grandeur when we see its hold upon hearts devoted to it, when subjected to trouble, persecution, and sorrow. How mighty must that Gospel be which, when it gained an entrance into the heart of Paul, could never be driven out of it! For it he suffered the loss of all things, and as for them, he counted them but dung that he might win Christ. To spread the truth, he encountered hardships...

We will be collecting, sorting and handing out 10,000 Blessing Bags to the Homeless- We hope this will not only bless the homeless community, but that it will bless our church as well. We want our church to view the homeless differently, and become more equipped to help when they see a homeless person in need. These bags are easily reproduced and kept in cars for people to give out as they see homeless people in their daily travels. ii) June 27- Aug 1-The duration of the campaign iii) June 27-We will hand out one gallon Ziploc bags with an insert that has a list of items to put in the bag as well as serving opportunities available...

If you have your Bible tonight turn please to the fifteenth chapter of the book of Romans. Romans the fifteenth chapter beginning with verse thirty. I'd like to speak tonight for just a few brief moments on Paul's prayer request. You know we have a calendar of concern that you have out there and it tells about the requests that we have for prayer and some of these requests are requests for illness, for healing. Some of these requests are requests for God's strength and power to manifest in things that we are doing as a church. We have all kinds of requests tonight. And one of the greatest privileges that Christians have is the sharing of prayer...

1. Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy [our] brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellow laborer. Authorship Three times in the epistle the author refers to himself as Paul (vv. 1, 9, 19). Also, there is a close association with the Epistle to the Colossians, for both epistles mention Archippus, Epaphras, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke (cf. Col. 4:10, 12, 14, 17). Date and Place of Writing Paul was a prisoner when he wrote Philemon (vv. 1, 9). This epistle is therefore included among the so-called ''prison epistles,'' and was written during his first Roman imprisonment, A.D. 61-63. Because Onesimus accompanied...

A businessman happened to be staying in a hotel where a group of ministers was holding a conference. The next morning was very cold, and as the businessman approached the dining room he noticed the ministers gathered around a blazing log fire in the dining room. He was very cold and tried to get close to the fire, but the ministers blocked the way. The businessman sat for a few minutes shivering in the cold. Suddenly he shouted, "Last night I dreamed I was in hell." "Really," said one of the ministers. "What was it like?" The businessman replied, "Not much different than right here. I couldn't get near the fire where all...

In our last lesson we had concluded chapter 6 with Paul's discussion concerning separation from unbelievers. In (vs. 14), he said, Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 2. In (vs. 17,) we are told "come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing and I will receive you...which leads to the promise in (vs. 18), And I will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. a. Isn't it an amazing thing that we can be a child of God...

INTRODUCTION: The statements that have changed my life the most have tended to be those things that are unrehearsed, unscripted, and often an aside, or a parenthetical statement. Rick White Pastor of the People's Church in Nashville said once, "People like the vicarious feeling of being a part of a growing church, but few really like doing Evangelism personally" Tim Keller of Redeemer Presbyterian in NYC said, "You will be about as good at Evangelism as you are friendship."That's one of the reasons I like to hang out with older Pastors in settings where they are somewhat off the record. It's when they speak from the...

14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith-that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask...

With our beginning lesson last week, we had three points: Paul's Greeting, His Prayer and His Confidence: He was confident they were saved (vs. 6a), and then he was confident they were eternally saved (vs. 6b). Tonight, as we move ahead with our study, I would like to give you another three points to consider: I. A Prayer for Knowledge II. A Prayer for Understanding III. A Prayer for Freedom I. A PRAYER FOR KNOWLEDGE (VV. 8-11) In (vs.8) Paul expresses his deep compassion and love for the Philippians. He said, "I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ"--with the love of Christ. "Bowels" refer to the...

One mother said she had, more or less, dismissed the idea of a generation gap until a recent conversation with her preteen daughter. While talking with her daughter, she mentioned how important it was to remain chaste. Her daughter, rather surprised responded, ''But why mom? I'd rather do the chasing myself instead of being chased!'' The language may have changed, the terms may be different, but the pull and danger of sexual immorality remains the same. Something else that remains the same and has not changed are God's guidelines and principles for sexual-purity. Historically people have been all over the map with...

Throughout History God has worked in two ways - His seen hand of Miracle (When a little bit of Heaven spills over into our Experience on Earth). And more frequently through His unsee hand of Providence. ACTS began with God majorly working through his seen hand of miracle, but we have reached a point when God will progressively work more and more through His unsee hand of Providence. The book of Acts began with an outpouring of miracle and it ends with an outpouring of God's providence. The Ascension - When Jesus ascended into heaven there were about 120 committed followers gathering in Jerusalem. Pentecost...

If you have your Bibles today, I invite you to turn with me to Philippians 1:27. Philippians 1:27-30 "Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God. For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake; Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me." As I...
