God Wants You Healthy and Holy (3 of 10)
by Jerry Vines
This really stumped me when I started trying to read through the whole Bible. I got to the book of Leviticus, and I just got so confused about it all I just gave up. We are looking at the book of Leviticus, and as we do we are seeing that God is setting up the basis for fellowship with Him. The opening chapters, about the first 17 chapters, have to do with our relationship to God. Our relationship to God is on the basis of sacrifice. They couldn't approach God apart from a sacrifice and a priest who would offer that sacrifice on an altar. You and I approach God on the basis of the sacrifice of the death of our Lord Jesus on the cross of Calvary...
The Feast of Weeks
by David Cawston
The Feast Of Passover. (Leviticus 23:5) 5 The LORD's Passover begins at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month. (NIV) It was there that a lamb was sacrificed and the blood was applied to each doorpost. While this was done in faith and obedience to God's command, the home was passed over and the life of the firstborn was spared. The Picture of the Death of Christ for the sins of Israel! 2. The Feast Of Unleavened Bread. Lev 23:6-8 6 On the fifteenth day of that month the LORD's Feast of Unleavened Bread begins; for seven days you must eat bread made without yeast. 7 On the first day hold a sacred assembly and...
Three Pictures in the Atonement (3 of 5)
by Stan Coffey
Easter is one of my favorite times a year. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ are fundamental to the Christian faith. Christianity rises or falls on the veracity of Christ's resurrection which we celebrate at Easter. I believe there is no greater picture of the meaning of Easter than that of the Day of Atonement. Here we see both the cross of Christ and the resurrection of Christ. In Rev. 13:8 we read that Christ, the Lamb of God, ''was slain from the foundation of the world. Before God created the world, before he set the stars in place, before he breathed into the nostrils of man the breath of life God knew that man would fall...
Passover (1 of 7)
by Ernest Easley
During the month of December in communities across America there is what is called The Tour of Homes. Perhaps you have been on one of those tours. It gives you the opportunity to walk through and enjoy some of the most beautiful and historical homes in the community. Now tonight we're going to begin our own tour but not of homes but of holidays! This is going to be the Tour of Holidays! You say, ''Pastor, what is the tour of holidays?'' Well on these Sunday nights beginning tonight we're going to be touring GOD'S SPECIAL HOLIDAYS found in the Old Testament. I suppose there is not a nation on earth that doesn't have...
The Death of Two Preachers' Sons
by Robert Walker
I hold very stern opinions with regard to Christian men who have fallen into gross sin. I rejoice that they may be truly converted, and may be mingled with hope and caution received into the church; but I question, gravely question whether a man who has grossly sinned should be very readily restored to the pulpit as John Angell James remarks, ''When a preacher of righteousness has stood in the way of sinners, he should never again open his lips in the great congregation until his repentance is as notorious as his sin.'' My belief is that we should be very slow to help back to the pulpit men, who having once been tried, have...
The Gift of Fellowship (1 of 3)
by Jeff Strite
OPEN: Joe had ordered an expensive suit for a banquet, and the tailor finished alterations just in time. But as Joe left the shop, a sudden rainstorm doused the jacket and shrank one of the sleeves.''We can't do anything about it today,'' the tailor told Joe when he returned to the shop. ''Just stretch the sleeve over your hand, and no one will notice.'' With his arm contorted, Joe left the shop, and again was doused by rain. This time, a pant leg shrank. 'I can't take care of that now!'' exclaimed the tailor. ''Pull the bottom of pants over your heel, and nobody will notice.'' His body twisted, Joe again left the shop. Two women were passing...
The Difference in Love
by Christopher Harbin
Love-we write songs about it. We write poems about it. We watch movies and shows about it. We romanticize about it. Somehow, our writing, singing, talking and romanticizing about love does not always translate into living according to the love we claim to love. Relationships are not always romantic, sweet, loving, and picture perfect. Relationships include people, and that is where it all gets messy. Beyond the glitter, sparkle and glamour of romance, love requires a difference in commitment and the investment of our lives in the life of another. It requires that we give up something of ourselves on behalf of another. My wife tells...
The Door to Serving (9 of 9)
by Dennis Marquardt
INTRO: There is no doubt about God's call on our lives for service. To be a Christian brings a certain level of responsibility to serve. What is this call to service? What is it that God is asking from us? What are the expectations of servanthood? Sometimes our focus as Christians can become misplaced while it is vitally important that we keep our eyes on Jesus there are other issues of servanthood that go along with that focus on Christ. It is not enough that we are concerned for our own salvation, God's call is twofold: that we get saved, and that we reach the lost! ILLUS: D.L. MOODY ONCE TOLD THIS STORY ABOUT A PAINTING...
A Happy 'Shavuot' to You
by Daniel Rodgers
ILLUS: Recently, on Sunday before Passover, I performed the Jewish Seder. The Seder is a memorial of the Passover. Every Jew is required to keep this feast in memory of their deliverance from bondage. On the night before they left Egypt, they were required to sacrifice a lamb, and apply the blood to the doorposts and the lintel. Of course, you and I know that the Lamb represents Jesus Christ, sacrificed for us. In the New Testament, Paul wrote, ''For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us'' (1 Cor. 5:7). Though I had a few of the things I needed to perform the Seder, I didn't have everything. So, I decided to go right to...
Burning Hearts for the New Year
by Ken Trivette
As we come to the end of 2006 and stand on the threshold of 2007, I think of the words of the saintly Francis Ridley Havergal: Another year is dawning,Dear Father let it be, In working or in waiting, Another year with thee. Another year of progress, Another year of praise, Another year of proving Thy presence all the days. Another year of mercies, Of faithfulness and grace, Another year of gladness, The glory of thy face. Another year of leaning Upon thy loving breast, Another year of trusting, Of quiet, happy rest. Another year of service, Of witness for thy love, Another year of training For holier work...
