I started in Haggai last week and I brought the first part of the message. I want to continue in the second chapter tonight. I am moving through the Minor Prophets and I have had the surprise of my life because I have discovered there is a keen interest on the part of the congregation to hear what God has to say in these neglected books of the Bible. I have been especially interested in the response of our young people-to see how interested and responsive they have been to these messages. In your Old Testament there are twelve books, which fall into the category of the Minor Prophets. The first nine of these prophets are what we call pre...

God's ancient people rarely responded positively to what the prophets were saying. But when Haggai spoke, the people took note and obeyed. The results were dramatic. I. The Characters. A. Introduction: We are almost to the end of the Old Testament. Haggai is the third from end. It is also the second shortest book in the Old Testament with just two chapters and thirty-eight verses. But it is short and powerful! Before you can appreciate Haggai's message, you need to understand a principle that many find a bit foreign to our world. I will call it the Law of the Harvest. Simply put, the Law of the Harvest says ''Whatsoever a man sows that shall he also reap.'' In other words, life has consequences. This is not surprising. I suspect most people believe that in one form or another. But for Haggai and the Bible there is a bit more to the Law of the Harvest. God is a part of the equation now, not just...

(READ Haggai) In 1969 a rock album entitled ''The Chicago Transit Authority'' was released with huge success. One of the songs on that album was entitled ''Does anybody really know what time it is.'' Candidly, that song is considered a rock classic these days. The words to the chorus are ''Does anybody really know what time it is, does anybody really care? If so, I can't imagine why. We've all got time enough to cry.'' Interestingly, the second chorus changes the word 'cry' to 'fly' while the third chorus change this word to 'die.' That is the truth. We will die. Today, I ask question; ''What time is it?'' Everybody has their own...

Introduction: The strong leader builds a strong church that will impact culture, change atmosphere in the city, transform lives, and win the lost. Matthew 16:16-18 says, ''Simon Peter answered and said, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.' Jesus answered and said to him, 'Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.''' The strong leader raises the passion level for building a world-impacting church. This message seeks to...

Theme: It was no "feel good" message that Haggai had for God's people. Their excuses could not stand in the face of the obvious reality. Their houses were finished; God's was not! But if they would put God first and get back to the task of rebuilding the temple, they would experience God's powerful presence once again. Introduction: When the twin towers and the pentagon were attacked on 9/11, the symbols of our national identity were attacked. It was as if all of us had been attacked. But we still had our faith and our places of worship. But what if the churches of our nation were destroyed? When Jerusalem was destroyed in...

Haggai is the period of rebuilding of the temple after Jews had returned to their homeland following their captivity in Iraq or Babylon. Modern day Iraq, where our troops are now in the process of helping to rebuild Iraq, to free the Iraqis and rebuild their land, is old testament Babylon and new testament Babylon as well. Haggai has returned from Babylon and he is the prophet now who is in Israel and he is predicting what will happen in the end times. He also is prophesying about the rebuilding of their temple. They did rebuild the temple during Haggai's time and as he encourages the rebuilding of this temple and the temple is rebuilt, we...

And I want you to notice with me Haggai chapter one and verse Haggai chapter one and verse five. Now therefore thus saith the Lord of host, consider your ways. I want to talk to you today on this subject, HOW BIG IS GOD? I heard Dr. John Blancher speak from the book of Haggai and he moved my heart and I want to speak from this same book because I learned from him some wonderful truths that I want to try to share with you as we think about the fact, how big is God? We serve a great God, amen. I mean a great God and when I ask the question, how big is God, don't you think for one little moment that I'm going to try to answer...

The Israelites had their hope in the coming of the Messiah to the Lord's temple, but for you and me today, the ultimate hope and fulfillment of the Biblical Promise of Messiah's coming is when the Lord, Jesus Christ returns in power at the end of the age to claim His Bride, the Church. AND... when Jesus comes again, He will completely and perfectly remodel the church in whose work we are working on and what He will do, will completely outdo even the biggest Hollywood movie star's mansion. Folks, we MUST never lose sight of the fact that God continues to want you and me, who are His people, because of saving faith in...

Turn to Haggai 1 and let me ask a question, ''What's going On in our nation and churches?'' It always helps to know background. 2 Chronicles records Solomon completing construction of the Ornate Temple of God. Some 400 years later, 586BC (approximately), the temple and city were destroyed by the Babylonians taking people to captivity and the sacred things along with them. Then in 539BC Cyrus, King of Persia, defeated the Babylonians and began to allow the Jewish people to return to their homeland. Led by Zerubbabel, they returned to Jerusalem to resettle and rebuild. Believing they had a divine mandate to rebuild the...
