ADAM AND EVE SERMON OUTLINES

by Charles H. Spurgeon

It will be interesting to the members of this church to know that it was under a sermon delivered by Mr. William Wallin from this very text that my honored and venerable predecessor, Dr. Gill, was converted to a knowledge of the truth as it is in Jesus. I looked with some degree of curiosity to his interpretation of this passage. I had half hoped to find there some allusion to his own conversion, but I did not, although I was edified by his clear and methodical comment upon it, to which I am under obligations for suggesting the present discourse. May I hope that, as this text has been the means in the hand of God of...

This has to be one of the greatest anti-climaxes in all of history. Adam and Eve eat of the forbidden fruit, waiting for marvelous results, they wait, then the crop of sin starts coming in. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God the demons of hell must have jumped for joy. The angels must have wept. The innocent pair becomes the guilty pair. Over in the book of Galatians the sixth chapter and the seventh verse, the Bible says: God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. The law of sin is as inevitable as the law of sowing and reaping in the harvest. Sin reaps a harvest. You reap what you sow and you reap...

Well, if you have your Bibles, please turn to Genesis chapter 1 and Genesis chapter 2. We're going to look at those passages today. We want to talk about Adam and Eve. I heard about a Sunday school teacher, fifth grade Sunday school teacher. And this Sunday school teacher was trying to teach his Sunday school class, about the evils of alcohol. And so he had an object lesson. And he brought in a glass of whiskey and he brought in a glass of water, and he put it on the table. And he had two worms in another little container. He told his class about the evils of alcohol. He picked up one of the worms and he...

So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate (v. 6). In Genesis 3:1-7, we read about the beginning of sin in the human race. What is sin? Sin is disobedience to God's commands. (We are commanded to do what is good, and we are commanded to not do what is evil.) God gave to Adam and Eve only one command. He said, ''You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall...

Take your Bibles, please and turn to Genesis chapter two, Genesis two and lets begin reading in verse eighteen. Genesis chapter two, verse eighteen. We're talking to you today about marriage. And the miracle of marriage. And today we're going to be studying about the first family and not Ronald and Nancy. We're going to be talking about Adam and Eve. And, how exciting it's going to be as we look at wedding bells in Eden. "And the Lord God said, it is not good that the man should be alone, I will make him an helpmeet for him. And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every fowl of the...

A vain Emperor who cares about nothing except wearing and displaying clothes hires two swindlers who promise him the finest, best suit of clothes from a fabric invisible to anyone who is unfit for his position or ''hopelessly stupid''. The Emperor's ministers cannot see the clothing themselves, but pretend that they can for fear of appearing unfit for their positions and the Emperor does the same. Finally the swindlers report that the suit is finished, they mime dressing him and the Emperor marches in procession before his subjects. The townsfolk play along with the pretense, not wanting to appear unfit for their positions or stupid...

We read of the creation of Eve in Genesis, chapter 2. We read in verse 19 that out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, every fowl of the air, and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them. And whatsoever Adam called every creature that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helpmeet for him. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept. And He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; and the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man...

It all started with Adam and EVE. I know, I know, I am old fashioned. I still believe marriage is between a man and a woman. Being the first couple had its privileges. They couldn't complain, ''I don't know what the younger generation is coming to.'' THEY HAD NO IN-LAW PROBLEMS. Adam did not have to listen to Eve tell him of all the other men she could have married. Eve did not have to endure Adam's comparison of her cooking to the way his mother cooked. Adam was lonely because he did not have a corresponding opposite. God pronounced that it was not good for Adam to be alone. But before he provided Adam with a help...

Sin is all around us. Everyday people sin against God. Sometimes we get so used to sinning that we do not realize that we are sinning when we do sin. There are people that try to keep their sins a secret but sooner or later they will be revealed. Sin is a terrible thing and can be embarrassing and hurt many people including ourselves. Illustration 1 There was a man names Noel Coward who sent the same note to the twenty most prominent and political men in London, saying, ''Everything has been discovered. Escape while you can.'' All twenty of those men left the town immediately. Illustration 2 Billy Sunday, an evangelist...

I started a new series last week that I'm calling ''It's a Jungle Out There!'' as we are learning how to safari our way through the stresses of life because life in the 21st century is more stressful then ever. Today we are looking at the marriage jungle. It seems like everything in our societal jungle today is working against marriage. The jungle of stress will either strengthen your marriage or tear it apart depending on how you handle it. If you are married or if you ever think there might be the slightest chance that you will be one day, take out your outlines from your program because we all need this message. We are going...

If you are unfulfilled, frustrated and unhappy with yourself it is probably because the growth principle is not working in your life. If we haven't overcome that within us which is above us, we will soon yield to that which is around us! If we do not seriously decide to grow our spiritual nature within us then we will not grow. Quotes: "If necessity is the mother of invention, discontent is the father of progress.""God loves you the way you are and loves you too much to leave you that way…""Don't go through life, grow through life.""Love not what you are but what you may become." Have we grown and become all that we thought we....

Now in verses 12-21 Paul contrasts and compare our lostness in Adam to our justification in Christ. His goal is to show that justification is not mearly better than lostness, it is infinitely better. Now in order to understand what Paul is communicating you must understand the concept of imputed sin and imputed righteousness. In one sense God deals with you in a very personal sense, relating to each of us individually. In another very real sense, God deals with every person who was ever born vicariously through one of two men. These two men stand in proxy for the entirety of the human race. Your relation to them - determines...

Why did they do it? Ever since the story of Adam and Eve was told people have been asking, ''Why did they disobey God? How come Eve listened to the serpent's crafty words? Why didn't Adam show some leadership instead of capitulating his responsibility?''After all they were in the Garden of Eden. Paradise! The Garden that God had provided for them was stunningly beautiful. It was also bountiful - trees in abundance for shade; gorgeous fruit everywhere that was good to eat, lovely flowers that were a delight to see and smell. But there was more to this Paradise than trees, food, and flowers. Adam and Eve were enjoying a...

JESUS CHRIST, a literal historical figure, is called "the second Adam." The first Adam was also a literal historical figure. There was an actual historical homosapien named Adam who had a helpmate named Eve. The word "Adam" is used in the Book of Genesis generically for "mankind," such as in Genesis 5: 2. However, it is also used as a name of the individual man first created by God. Gay Rights Activists try to twist this verse to imply unisex. As used in this verse, it is a generic term for mankind. God created them Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.

Who am I and Why Am I here? - It's a critical question. In our culture today ... it's a controversial question. Some would answer ... "You are whoever you want to be. You decide." As Christian though we believe God has something to say about WHO YOU ARE. - We have a Creator and we are DESIGNED by Him. - We don't merely exist for ourselves. - In fact, I'd argue that the Bible is one book that can adequately address the social confusion and cultural insanity of our day. - God's Word tells us who we are ... it tells us what is most important about it. God's Word teaches we are CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF GOD.

My Father Was Gay Yet I oppose legalizing same-sex marriage. It took me decades to come to my views on same-sex "marriage." From infancy, I was unwittingly identified under the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transsexual umbrella. During the first 30 years of my life, I garnered many personal, social and professional experiences with my father, whom I always loved, and his partners. My father, a successful executive recruiter, taught me a strong business ethic. My childhood My father told me that he always wanted children. I was exposed to a lot of expressed sexuality and subcultures in my home. My father never required me to call any of his sexual partners "dad"; instead, I called each of them by their first name. Gender is supposed to be boundless, yet I did not see my father or his partners valuing, loving and affirming women. My father's preference for one gender (male) created an inner sense of inequality for me.

You might see this as unfair. ''Why should everyone die because of the sin one man committed thousands of years ago?'' But the same could be said of justification through Christ: ''Why should the death of one man thousands of years ago lead to eternal life for many?'' HOW JESUS UNDID IT ''Adam, who was a type [pattern, NIV] of the one who was to come [Jesus]'' (v. 14b). How was Adam like Jesus? Both Adam and Jesus committed an act that affected the whole human race. But there's a big difference between what kind of effect the acts of Adam and Jesus have had on us.

One of the most profound teachings of God's Holy Word (and it is very important for us to grasp it) is Romans 5:12-21. The theme there is the FALL of Adam and the COMPLETE WORK of Christ. You say, "What has that to do with us?" It has everything to do with us! We are either IN ADAM or IN CHRIST. God sees us in one or the other. Now don't forget this profound truth. There are only two heads of the race: Adam and Christ. Christ is called in the Word of God the second Adam. He came to UN-DO what the first Adam did.

I'll resume our study of this wonderful book of foundations. Virtually all of the doctrines of the Bible find their beginning, their inception in the book of Genesis. This is why Genesis has been called the seed plot of all of the Bible. There, at the beginning of God's revelation, you see the opening of these great doctrines which are elaborated in the New Testament. The Scripture tonight is going to give to us God's plan for marriage. We are going to a wedding. In fact, we are going to attend the first wedding which ever took place on the earth. Genesis chapter one gives us the account of creation in general. Genesis chapter two gives us the creation of Tnan in particular.
