As despised slaves, the people of Israel were stripped of all dignity and without hope…until God started to stir. The events that follow are some of the most re-told events in history: the rise of Moses, crossing the Red Sea, the golden calf, the Ten Commandments…and the list goes on. The story of the Israelites - unfolding piece by piece as God leads the way - is also our story. It’s a story that reveals what’s worst about us: our tendency to doubt, complain, and turn to false gods. And it’s a story that displays what’s most awesome about God: his tender care mixed with staggering power, his fierce commitment to his people, and his utter uniqueness as the “I am.” It is because of him that we have a future and a hope.
