Nehemiah 9:9-12
What exciting times we are living in! God is moving and we are following. We heard the call from Jesus on the day we were saved when He said ''Follow Me.'' He didn't say receive a new status in life. He didn't say here's your ticket to heaven now go home and enjoy yourself. He didn't say live your life being a good person. He didn't even say become a spiritual or religious person. NO! He said FOLLOW ME!
This implies that He is going somewhere and we make a choice to follow Him. One of the characteristics of God is that He leads His people. When the children of Israel were delivered out of Egyptian bondage, God led them through the Red Sea and desired to bring them all the way into the promised land. One of the ways that He led them in the wilderness was with His presence in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.
HE LED THEM WITH THE FIRE AND THE CLOUD
Nehemiah 9:9 ''You saw the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, And heard their cry by the Red Sea. 10 You showed signs and wonders against Pharaoh, Against all his servants, And against all the people of his land. For You knew that they acted proudly against them. So You made a name for Yourself, as it is this day. 11 And You divided the sea before them, So that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry land; And their persecutors You threw into the deep, As a stone into the mighty waters. 12 Moreover You led them by day with a cloudy pillar, And by night with a pillar of fire, To give them light on the road Which they should travel.
There were those in Jesus day who could not follow Him. They were bound to the things of this earth.
