Judges 7:4-7

Israel would go through a cycle of rebellion against God. Then the second part of the cycle was that God's judgment always comes when we rebel against Him. Whether we're a nation or an individual, ''Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.'' So there was the cycle of rebellion, and then there was retribution: God would bring judgment. Then the people would cry out to God and repent. When there was repentance, then there would be renewal. God would hear their cry and raise up a leader to help them overcome their enemies. We last looked in Judges 6 at how the Midianite armies had invaded Israel, how the Midianites had so oppressed Israel that when Israel would plant their crops, the crops would be ready for harvest, and the Midianites would come in and destroy the harvest. They oppressed and impoverished the people to such an extent that Israel found themselves living in caves and dens, hiding from the enemy. The Promised Land, the land given to them, had been overrun by the enemy.

We see a parallel in that in America, the land that God gave us, that God ordained, God raised up America to be a light among the nations of the world. Yet today the enemy has brought darkness where there is supposed to be light. Rather than being a light and a witness to the nations of the world in many cases, America is an embarrassment, a reproach to God. So we see a tremendous parallel. When God has blessed America, it seems that Americans have become lax and rebellious. Sometimes as a nation we've turned our back on God. We took prayer out of schools; we took God out of government. We have forgotten the faith of our founding fathers in many cases. We have become prideful and taken glory for ourselves as a nation and said, ''We're a super power; look at what we've done. We won the cold war.'' So the judgment of God has come upon America. There's become a moral, a spiritual, ...
