Honor Thy Parents

Exodus 20:12
Praise God. Amen. Praise the Lord. What a great time we've had in the Lord today. I thank Him for the way He has blessed our church with so much talent and with such willing people - the orchestra, the choir and all the praise team. Everyone did such a good job making this a special Mother's Day. You know, in our church we want to reach everybody with the gospel - the young, the old, rich, poor, saved, lost. That's why we do different kinds of music so don't miss a Sunday because on the Sunday you miss we're going to be doing your kind. It won't be the same every week. It's going to be different. Just be patient with us and understand that everything we do is for one reason and that's to reach people for Jesus Christ and to minister to all of our people.
Take your Bible this morning and turn to Exodus chapter 20 and verse 12. I want to speak to you this morning on the subject - HONOR YOUR PARENTS. We've had our baby dedication and we're celebrating Mother's Day. God long ago gave a commandment to the children of Israel and it's the only commandment with promise - giving honor to your parents. In Exodus 20:12 the Bible says "Honor your Father and your Mother so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God has given to you." Honor your father and your mother. Now, we're here today to honor our mothers. Let's look today at this command and see what God has to say about honoring our parents.
I. First of all I want you to notice the reason for honoring our parents - number one - because God said so and that ought to be enough. God said in the ten commandments, and this is the big ten, this is God's top ten, and number 5 on God's top ten is honor your father and your mother. Honor your parents, God says. God had a reason for giving us this command. It is in honoring our parents that we learn to respect authority. God gave us three institutions for society. God gave us the church. God gave us the government ...
