2 Corinthians 1:21
I have studied the work of the Holy Spirit all my life. I'm in the twenty-first year in this church out of thirty-four years of ministry. I have always been one interested in everything I can know about the work of the Holy Spirit, because I realized in the early days of my life that apart from Him, I can do nothing. I've never prayed more about a message than I've prayed about this message. Because as I began to research this subject, although I have mentioned to you many times the anointing of the Holy Spirit, I have never preached an entire sermon on the anointing. This is for sure and for real a brand new area for me to preach and teach about, but it's one that I've known personally in my life. All through the years of my ministry, I have personally walked in the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Many of you have walked in the anointing and haven't realized the anointing from God that you have.
WHAT IS THE ANOINTING? Baptism of the Holy Spirit places us in the body of Christ at the moment of conversion and gives us our position in Christ. The filling of the Holy Spirit is the yieldedness of our life to Him who lives and indwells us that we might serve in power and He might control every single area of our mind, our emotions, and our will. The anointing of the Holy Spirit gives us our vocation in Christ. Baptism gives us our position, the in-filling gives us our condition, and the anointing gives us our vocation. You say, ''Which one is important?'' They're all important. Someone has defined the anointing of the Holy Spirit as the special ability or favor to accomplish the calling given to us by God in a manner which glorifies God. If you want a shorter definition, it's this: the anointing of the Holy Spirit is a special touch for your special task that God has called you to do.
