Mark 5:1-20
If you have your Bible, please turn to Mark chapter 5. I heard a story about three preachers. They were friends. They all ministered in the same town. They went out of town to go on a fishing trip. And so they're on the boat fishing. And one says to the other two guys, he says, ''You know,'' he said, ''in our ministry, we hear a lot of people that are sharing their hearts with us and sharing their struggles and sharing their problems.'' And he said, ''I hear that a lot. I imagine you guys hear that a lot.'' He said, ''But, man, we don't really have anybody that we can share our problems with.'' And the guys said, ''Yeah, that's right.'' And he said, ''Guys, what if we just right now, just in the privacy of this boat, we just shared what we're struggling with?'' And they said, ''That would be a good idea. That would help us.'' And so the guy said, ''Well, I'll start first.'' He said, ''Guys, I'm struggling with alcohol.'' He said, ''I know it's wrong. I know I shouldn't be, but I'm just like a closet drinker, and I need you to pray for me because I'm really struggling with that. That's my big struggle in life.'' And they said, ''Wow, okay.'' Second guy said, ''Well, my problem guys, I hate to say it, but I'm struggling with gambling. You know, when the mood hits me, I go to the boats. And I know I shouldn't, but I'm struggling. Please pray for me.'' And they said, ''Man, that's tough. I'll pray for you.'' They looked at the third guy, and they said, ''What about you? What do you struggle with?'' He said, ''I struggle with gossip, and I can't wait to get back to town to tell somebody!'' (laughter)
We're starting a new series today and it has to do with telling somebody. And not telling somebody else's secret, but telling somebody and somebodies about the One who can set them free.
