We say it around here all the time: our mission is to be a group of people who are being transformed into Christ-followers. And that will show up in three ways: we'll be people who love God, love people, and serve the world. And all the ministries of the Chapel are really designed to help us grow into those kind of people.

And I want to let you know about one of the things the Chapel is doing to serve the world. This past weekend we had a team of middle school students and a few high school students return from a trip to Maine with Dan Krulan, our Associate Youth Pastor. There were 28 students and leaders, and they were serving with an organization called YouthWorks. And just in case you suspect that they spend the week doing water balloon fights and roasting marshmallows, let me just give you a little window into what this trip really was…

They were divided into 5 work crews, with an adult leader over each crew. And every day they went out into the community to serve in the name of Christ. Some of the groups helped with a local Vacation Bible School; some of them did scraping and painting for needy residents; some of them worked as camp counselors with a Boys and Girls club summer camp; some of them served in a nursing home; some of them served the town by clearing brush and helping in the town's recreation department; some of them went and spent time with residents of an assisted living facility.

And then every day they gathered together for worship and teaching; the theme of the teaching was based on the words of John the Baptist, who was referring to Jesus, and he said, ''He must become greater; I must become less.'' So they talked about what it means to humble yourself and let Jesus work through your life.
