INTRODUCTION: The sin which God judges most severely use to sneak down our back alleys, now it struts down main street, yet scripture and history show how God has spared no nation which is guilty of this sin. This sin was clearly illustrated in the city of Sodom during the time of Abraham. God said that there is a limit to human wickedness beyond which judgment is inevitable. Mrs. Billy Graham said "if God does not punish America He will have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah." Sodom is named six times in the Old Testament and four times in the New Testament. More than any other catastrophe in the history of the world the overthrow of Sodom has held- up a-s the supreme example of the coming judgment of God upon this world. Jesus said "as it was in the days of Lot ... thus shall it be in the day when the son of man is revealed. (Luke 7:28-30). The overthrow of Sodom by God provides us with a striking parallel based on changeless principles. Given the same set of circumstances, God acts in the same way he did before. The doom of Sodom and the narrow escape of Lot illustrate the impending doom of our world and the nick-of-time escape of the church.
