INTRODUCTION: In the lesson today we will cover two major sections. In the first 18 verses we will see the basic elements of laws for God's government in the world. These are important because they are laws that have never been repealed. These are rules for man, which still abide.

Then the remainder of the chapter we will deal with the curse God placed upon Canaan. In the 18th century many believed that this mysterious curse upon Ham and his son Canaan was a curse upon a certain segment of human race. Since Ham is the father of the black man cruel discrimination arose toward that particular race of people.

I. BASIC ELEMENTS OF GOD'S LAWS FOR GOVERNMENT IN THE WORLD
A. Renewal of God's Covenant - Genesis 9:1
B. Declaration of Man's Dominion - vs. 2
1. Dominion over animals - vs. 2-3
2. Directions regarding diet - vs. 3-4
a. Both meat and vegetables may be eaten - vs. 3
b. Meat with life blood may not be eaten - vs. 4
c. In the blood is life and life is the property of God. Reference is given even for physical blood - Lev. 17:11, Isa. 53:10
3. Directions regarding capital punishment - vs. 5-6
a. Life is so precious that when it is taken then that ones life must be taken
b. The purpose of capital punishment is not only to deter crime but to teach us that the life of a human being is off limits to us - Rom. 13:4-5
4. Repetition of command to multiply - vs. 7
