INTRODUCTION: We have seen that God made man in His own image. Since God is the Trinity, this means that the make up of man is in the form of the Trinity as well. God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit, one God expressed through three persons. Man is body, soul and spirit. The body of man, his physical make up, is like the house in which he lives. 11 Corinthians 5:1. The soul of man Nepesh in the Hebrew and Suka in the Greek speaks of the mind, the emotion and the will. With our soul we have intellectual life, we have volitional capacity and we have emotional life. But man is also spirit. The Hebrew word used for breath of life is Cha. Literally, it is a plural word "God breathed into man's nostrils the breath of lives. This speaks of the eternality of mans existence and when God breathed into man's nostrils the breath of life, man could no more cease to exist than God himself could cease to exist.

A. With the body man has world consciousness
B. With the soul man has self consciousness
C. With the spirit man has God consciousness

3. When we become Christians God's Spirit bears witness with our spirit - Romans 8:16
II. THE SOUL AND THE SPIRIT ARE CONNECTED
A. The soul and the spirit are not the same
B. While the soul and the spirit are not the same, they are always connected
C. What happens to your spirit ultimately will happen to your soul - I Thess. 5:23
