INTRODUCTION: Only the Word of God tells us how man came into being. But it not only tells us how man came into being, the Word of God tells us why man came into being and what man is like. It is important to understand who you are to understand how you're suppose to function. And you have to understand what you are to understand how you're suppose to function. God made you for a purpose and you are to function with a purpose. In Genesis 2:7 the Bible says that man was made in the image of God. God is a triune God. He is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Man is only one person but there are three parts to man's nature made in the image of God. He is body, soul and spirit. It is important for us to understand how we are made if we're to understand how we are to function.

I. THE BODY OF MAN - verse 7
A. And the Lord God formed man
The word "formed" is a word meaning to mold. God took the dust of the earth and molded a man of the very elements that exist in the ground.
1. 58 pounds of oxygen
2. 50 quarts of water
3. 2 ounces of salt
4. 3 pounds of calcium
5. 24 pounds of carbon
6. Chlorine, phosphorus, fat, iron, sulfur and glycerin
B. Man is fearfully and wonderfully made --Psalm 139:14
1. The skin
2. The circulatory system
3. The eye
4. The ear
5. The brain and communication system

II. THE SOUL OF MAN
A. The word for soul is Nepesh, the Hebrew word and Suka, the Greek word. From this word we get the word psychology, psychiatry and psyche.
