Introduction: -
We have seen in a previous lesson how Satan operates with regard to his own children. He prevents their conversion by hardening their hearts and blinding their minds. He obstructs their conversion by perverting the truth through the spread of false doctrine, through a worldly life style, and through oppression. He also works by- influencing rulers of the various governments and nations of the world. For this reason Satan is called "the god of this age and the prince of this world."
In today's lesson we will focus on recognizing Satan's devices, plans, and strategies as they relate to the children of God and the church.
I. SATAN WORKS IN THE CHILDREN OF GOD BY CREATING DOUBT.
A. Satan tempted Eve to doubt God, His Word, His goodness, His concern, and His security.
B. For this reason Paul described the hope of salvation as a helmet - I Thess. 5:8
II. SATAN WORKS IN THE CHILDREN OF GOD-BY INSTIGATING PERSECUTION
- Rev. 2:10. -
III. SATAN WORKS IN THE CHILDREN OF GOD BY HINDERING MINISTRY.
A. In I Thess. 2:18 Paul says, expect Satan to hinder your ministry. -- - -
B. Despite Satan's efforts to hinder believers, he never short circuits God's plan-- II Cor. 12:7. (Paul's thorn in the flesh.) - .
IV. Satan works in the children of God by infiltrating the church.
A. Through false Christians. -
1. Satan leads-unbelievers who appear to be Christians to the church, and it is very difficult for true believers to know if they-are genuine Christians or not. (See the parable of the tares and the wheat - Matt. 13) - -
2. In Matt. 13:38-39- the Lord identifies false Christians as tares and indicates the only way the wheat and tares will ever be separated is by God Himself at the end of the age - Matt. 13:40.
B. Through false teachers.
1. In I Tim. 4:1-3, Paul promised that false teachers in a church would speak "lies i ...
