Introduction:
In Luke 16 we read the story of the rich man and Lazarus. Lazarus, a child of God, died and was "carried by the angel into Abrahamn's bosom." What a tremendous comfort to believers to know that we will not have to cross Jordan alone. The ministering spirits, the holy angels, who have ministered to us by protecting and delivering us so often on the earth will be with us in our last great battle.
I. THE ANGELS MINISTERED TO JESUS FOLLOWING HIS DEATH.
A. Angels rolled away the stone of the tomb of Jesus.
B. Angels announced His resurrection to His disciples.
C. Just as an angel was involved in Christ's resurrection, so angels will help us in death.
II. THE DEATH OF BELIEVERS IS ESPECIALLY NOTED BY GOD.
A. The moment of death is precious In God's sight – Psalm 116:15.
B. God desires that a Christian's death be a time of peace and rest - Revelation 14:13.
C. God especially manifests His presence in the lives of believers during the moments of death - Psalm 23.
1. God promises to be with believers as they walk through the Valley of the Shadow of Death.
2. The Psalmist said, though I walk through the valley, I will not be afraid for "Thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff they comfort me" - Psalm 23:4. -
3. The rod and staff which help us In the Valley of the Shadow of Death could be a reference to holy angels of God.
III PAUL'S TEACHING CONCERNING THE DEATH OF BELIEVERS II Timothy 4.
A. Death is the last enemy of the believer that will be destroyed - I Cor. 15:26.
B. Paul said that death for a Christian was not loss but gain - Philippians 1:21.
C. Paul also said that to depart and be with Christ meant to be in a far better place - Philippians 1:23.
D. Paul presented death as a "Departure" - II Timothy 4:6. This is the language of taking a voyage and for the believer the angels provide the transportation from earth to heav ...
