Galatians 5:16-25
INTRODUCTION: Someone has well said that trying to live the Christian life apart from the Holy Spirit is like driving a car with the breaks on. Many Christians are doing precisely that, they are moving forward in many cases but oh so slowly and so painfully. The Lord, through His Spirit, wants to give us a life of power and a life of victory. That power is provided through the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, but we must learn how to have the power that is resident in our lives become power that is released in our lives. What is the evidence that we're living a spirit filled life? Some would say it is a gift, it is this gift or that gift. Or it is this manifestation or that manifestation. Galatians 5 tells us that the sign that you are filled with the Spirit is that your life produces the fruit of the Holy Spirit.
I. THREE CLASSES OF PEOPLE (SPIRITUALLY SPEAKING)
A. The first classification is what the Bible calls the natural man - I Cor. 2:14
1. The natural man has no spiritual desire "he receives not the things of the Spirit of God"
2. The natural man has no spiritual discernment - he cannot discern the things of the Lord
B. The second classification is what the Bible calls the carnal man - I Cor. 3:1 -
1. The carnal man is saved but he is fleshly - carnal comes from the word "karnos" or the Greek word "sarx" which means fleshly
2. The carnal man is a spiritual infant "a babe in Christ"
