INTRODUCTION: in order for a believer to grow in Christ's likeness and be useful to the Lord it is necessary that he understand the person and work of the Holy Spirit on his behalf. The Holy Spirit is not an influence, the Holy spirit is not an "it", the Holy Spirit is a divine person just as Jesus is a person, the Father is a person, so the Holy Spirit is a person as well. That the Holy Spirit is a person is shown throughout scripture. He has all the attributes of a person, which are, mind, emotion and will. He thinks, He decides, He grieves, He can be rejected or resisted. These all are attributes of personality. We will look at the work and person of the Holy Spirit under three headings. First we will see the work that the Holy Spirit does for you, that is salvation. Secondly, we will look at the work the Holy Spirit does in you, that is sanctification. Thirdly, we will look at the work the Holy Spirit does through you, that is service.
I. THE WORK THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT DOES FOR YOU - SALVATION
At the moment of salvation a sdries of things takes place in the life of every believer
A. You are born by the Spirit into the family of God - John 3:5 and following
1. At the moment of salvation you are "birthed" by the Spirit into the body of Christ
2. This only happens once, it is never repeated - John 3:3
B. You are baptized by the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ - I Cor. 12:13
1. Everyone who is saved is baptized by the Spirit the moment of salvation
