1 Thessalonians 2:1-12
Nobody likes to be a failure. What's more is that no one likes a failure. Today we tend to call a failure, a loser - and nobody likes a loser. We like 'winners', we like successes', and we like the ones who come out on top. If we are going to make these kind of judgments (and we are and do), then perhaps we need to be reminded of a couple of things. 1) Some of the greatest American heroes 'failed' (at least in the eyes of others) before they succeeded. In 1919, Walt Disney was fired from the Kansas City Star because, ''He lacked imagination and had no good ideas.'' Babe Ruth not only held the record for homeruns, at one point he held the record for strikeouts. His words, ''Every strike brings me that much closer to the next home run. But how about Abraham Lincoln. Follow this list: 1831 - failed in business, 1832 - Defeated for legislature, 1833 - failed in business, 1834 - Elected to the legislature, 1835 - Sweetheart died, 1936 - nervous breakdown, 1838 - defeated for speaker, 1840 - defeated for elector, 1843 - defeated for congress, 1846 - elected to Congress, 1848 - defeated for congress, 1855 - defeated for senate, 1856 - defeated for Vice-President, 1858 - defeated for senate, 1860 - ELECTED PRESIDENT. One of his famous statements is ''I do the very best I know how-the very best I can, and I mean to keep doing do.'' My point is that sometime people, countries, communities, and churches fail. But failure is not the end.
Also, success and failure must be viewed in the right way by the right standard. Since we're are talking about the Model Church and the Work of our Lord, let's state clearly that the ways of God, the plans of God, and the judgments of God are vastly different than that of man. Man says, 'The larger the church, the more money it has, and the more business like it is - the more it's successful.
