Memory is a big issue today. In fact, the older I get - the more it's an issue. The old story is that the older you get, the more you are concerned about the 'hereafter' - as in when you enter a room and you get concerned about what you can in 'here-after.' Some of us (I for one) sometimes wish we could invoke selective memory, so we would not HAVE to remember things we would prefer to forget. Most of the times we forget what we desire to remember. Candidly, we can joke about memory, but it's serious. I have said many times that some of the cruelest and debilitating of all diseases have to do memory. Diseases like Alzheimer's and dementia are feared because a person loses who he/she is, loses who they know, and many times what they know - which makes that individual - a different person. In other words, our memory makes us who we are.

However, there are times that with seemingly healthy minds, we forget things we want and need to remember. In the day of 'computers', all of us are familiar with passwords. Have you ever forgotten a password? What did you do? Did you hit the 'I forgot my password' button?

As Paul ends this letter to this wonderful group of people who made up the church at Thessalonica He gave to them, at times in fast moving bullet (talking) points, some things that they needed to never forget. This was kind of like a 'battle-cry' - ''REMEMBER THE ALAMO!'' - Motivation. (TEXT)

From our text, I offer five things Paul wanted them (and us) to not ever forget so we could do right.

Our Attitudes towards our Leaders - (v 12-13) As I read these two verses, two words come to mind; recognize, and revere. The recognition is found in the reading of verse 12. The ESV uses respect in verse 12, but in the NKJV it is rendered recognize. Recognize those who 'labor.'

The word ''labor'' means to ''Work to the point of exhaustion'' and admonish means 'to warn, ...
