Revelation 16:12-21
Last week we began the study of the mobilization of the armies of the world for the last great war, which is called the Battle of Armageddon. We looked at Revelation 16:1-11 and talked about how the angels are used as God's agents in carrying out the final seven judgments upon the earth. We looked at five of these judgments in the last lesson; now we will look at the sixth. "And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared" (Revelation 16:12). The Euphrates River is located in what we know today as modern day Turkey, Iran, and Iraq - particularly Iraq. But it has been controlled by Turkey. "The water thereof was dried up." Turkey has built a dam on the Euphrates River which is capable of drying it up. So God is moving even in the '90s to bring about the prophecy of His word.
"And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet" (Revelation 16:13). There you have an unholy trinity, which is the spirit of the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet. The dragon is the devil, the beast is the Antichrist, and the false prophet is his religious counterpart who will preside over worship and religion during the tribulation time. It says they come out like frogs possibly because one of the plagues of Egypt was frogs. There were frogs everywhere: in the soup, in the tea, in the oven. They had a great plague of frogs upon Egypt. One of the Egyptian gods was the frog, so there were images of the frog. Archaeologists have discovered that frogs were very important, because it revolved around the Nile River, which is the source of life in the land of Egypt. These are unholy gods and a reference to false gods.
