What should I look for in the man that is Spirit filled. Some years ago Dr. J. Vernon McGee gave a commencement address at Dallas Theological Seminary.

He was then in his early 80s and near the end of a long and fruitful ministry. Those there probably have forgotten almost everything else he said that night, but one comment speaks loudly today.

He said that if he were starting his ministry over again, he would give much more attention to the Person and work of the Holy Spirit. He would preach on the Spirit more frequently and attempt to lead people to depend on his power every day.

The greatest preacher of the 19th century, Charles Haddon Spurgeon, said, ''The grand thing the church wants in this time is God's Holy Spirit.'' More than anything else, we need to rediscover the Holy Spirit and learn anew to depend on him.

Turn with me to Galatians 5:22.

I. UPWARD FRUIT

The first thing that comes to me is there must be upward fruit. Galatians tells us in chapter 5:22 the fruit of the spirit is love, joy and peace.

The three prerequisite of showing a spirit filled life and spirit fill relations to God are the characteristic of love , joy and peace.

That gives the Spirit fill Christian a state of being whereby he is able to turn back all of the fiery darts of the wicked.

So he doesn't patronize this age. He doesn't accommodate this culture. He doesn't escape to a monastery or to the secret place as a style of life. He doesn't withdraw from his responsibility.

But he goes into the world to redeem the world and to change the world and to modify the world.. To transform the world.

That the world might see in him the model of the perfection of Christ of what his Majesty and his grace and virtue and his character really are. Hallelujah.

And what he shows is not his arrogant accomplishments . Not his lists of gifts. Not his pedigree. Not his achievements. But he shows''-
