Worship is the creature acknowledging what the creator has done. It is giving God the glory that he is due because of his greatness. The blind hymn writer Fanny Crosby described worship well: To God be the glory great things He hath done!

Thomas Watson wrote, “Praising God is one of the highest and purest acts of religion. In prayer we act like men; in praise we act like angels.”

One time when David was running from Saul he found safety in a Philistine town and out of that experience he wrote Psalm 34. Psalm 34:2-3 My soul makes its boast in the Lord . . . Oh, magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt his name together.

Charles Spurgeon wrote, “Jehovah is infinite, and therefore cannot really be made greater, but his name grows in glory as he is made known to his creatures, and thus he is said to be magnified.”

Praise is proclaiming the greatness of God for what he has done. We praise God by letting others know what he has done for us.

1. When he has delivered us from some habit, problem or sickness.
2. When he has blessed us with a child or grandchild or health.
3. When he has provided for our needs by giving us a job.

PRAISE FOR GOD’S GOODNESS :46-49 Personal :46-47 Mary praises God with her soul where our emotions come from. She was emotionally stirred by the praise which Elizabeth gave.

Magnifies (NIV glorifies, Williams extols) - Gk. to declare great. It comes from the idea of making something bigger or larger. Matt. 23:5 The Pharisees enlarge the borders of their garments by making the fringe on the hem longer than the cloaks of others. Luke 1:58 The people recognized God showed great (extra) mercy to Elizabeth in allowing her to give birth to a son in her old age.
