Joseph - God's Unsung Hero
Donald Cantrell
Matthew 1:18-25
Introduction:
Webster's defines hero as, ''a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities''. The word was coined in 1387 and originally implied hero, warrior, protector, or a defender.
We live in a world of superhero's and it seems that they are to numerous to mention. The superheros of my day and time were Superman, Spiderman, and possibly Batman; though many debate on weather Batman actually had superpowers. Then in real life we around surrounded by hero's that pop up from time to time.
If we were to list our heroes the list would be vast and eye opening. If we use the above definition to define our heroes I would list one of my greatest heroes to be a former president; Ronald Reagan. To me he was someone I admired for his greatness and his fine qualities as a president. I felt like he brought back patriotism to our country. Many would list Rosa Parks as a hero for her bravery in standing up to racism. The list is unending on our choices for heroes.
In our sermon today we will see a true biblical hero. Joseph was a hero and God saw him fit to be an integral part of the Christmas story. We know very little about this man named Joseph, but he obviously had proven himself to be faithful and loyal to God. Joseph is a man with no voice in the biblical story, he is literally faceless; voiceless, but due to his heroic acts of bravery the Christmas story stands firmly upon his shoulders. In the coming weeks many sermons will be preached about Jesus, Mary, the shepherds, the Wisemen, but we would not have these majestic stories were it not for Joseph and his bravery and loyalty.

Mat 1:18 KJV - Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
