Introduction:

Christmas has always had its critics and those that wanted to diminish its impact upon this lost world. We have those that want to celebrate the holidays with no regard to the one the holiday is about. One lady was heard to mumble, ''I don't mind celebrating Christmas; but does it have to be so religious''. This is the day and age that we live in; we want Xmas but not the Christ that goes with it. We want the decorated tree of Christmas but not the disturbing tree of Calvary.

It seems that Christmas has been attacked from the very conception of the little baby that was laid in the manger. When you get past all of the hustle and bustle of the holidays, past all of the family celebrations, the gifts, the cards, the dinners, the traveling; Christmas is still about that little baby boy that was sent to be the Savior of the world.

King Herod had received word that a King had been born and he was dwelling somewhere in Bethlehem. The news of this birth upset the city of Jerusalem and the King himself immediately began to devise a plan to destroy this little boy. King Herod was going to destroy any thoughts of Jesus becoming a future heir to his throne. He was going to destroy the very idea of Christmas before it ever took hold.

I - The Disturbing Dream (13)

In the Christmas story; everytime God spoke to Joseph it was in a dream. God spoke to him in a dream to help ease his mind concerning the birth of Jesus and his impending marriage to Mary. God speaks to him in several dreams in this passage. Jesus was now a small boy, possibly he was around 1 ½ to 2 years of age. The moment God spoke to Joseph about the impending danger; it had to be rather disturbing. The family had previously left Nazareth and moved to Bethlehem. Now the Lord was going to move them again, and before the story is complete; they will have to move again.
