Introduction:
In the bible the word tears are mention 36 times in 35 verses. The term cry is mentioned 181 times in 168 verses. The word cries is found 1 time in the bible. The word crieth is found 17 times in 17 verses. In the bible we find the word cried 199 times in 195 verses. The word weep is found 49 times in 45 verses. We find weepeth 4 times in 4 verses. Weepest is found 3 times in 3 verses. Weeping is found 44 times in 41 verses.
If we consider all of the above words we notice that the shedding of tears is a very familiar theme found throughout the bible. The most noted servants of God were associated with tears and weeping. Even the Lord himself was a man of tears. In many societies we tell our boys and our men that crying is not acceptable. We teach our girls that it is okay to cry, that is common and acceptable, but not so with boys or men. This teaching is incorrect; in the bible tears are applauded and accepted.
