The Model Prayer - Our Request (14 of 14)
Series: It Was Just A Prayer Meeting
Donald Cantrell
Matthew 6:11-13
Introduction:
We mentioned that the model prayer involves 3 things that we need to do to make it effective and efficient in our lives, as follows:
1 - Effective Prayer Involves Relationship
2 - Effective Prayer Involves Responsibility
3 - Effective Prayer Involves Request
We considered our proper relationships last week. We need to have proper relationships with each other and with God. This means our trusting God. It also means knowing him personally as our heavenly father. It would also involve having assurance that we are children of God and that we are obeying him.
The Breakfast Prayer in Shenandoah
Charlie Anderson: ''Lord, we cleared this land. We plowed it, sowed it, and harvest it. We cook the harvest. It wouldn't be here and we wouldn't be eating it if we hadn't done it all ourselves. We worked dog-bone hard for every crumb and morsel, but we thank you Lord just the same for the food we're about to eat, amen.''
Jimmy Stewart - Shenandoah
The first thing needed for effective praying is have that proper relationship.
Mat 6:9 KJV - After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Mat 6:10 KJV - Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as [it is] in heaven.
Mat 6:11 KJV - Give us this day our daily bread.
Mat 6:12 KJV - And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Mat 6:13 KJV - And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
The second thing we must do to be effective in our prayer life is to display proper responsibility. We saw that we were to ''Honor Gods Name'', ''Hasten His Kingdom'', and ''Heed His Will''. In doing these three things we can find a prayer life that will be effective and useful to the glory of God as we pray.
