Proverbs 6:20-35
The Small Boy And The Doorbell
A priest is walking down the street one day when henotices a very small boy trying to press a doorbell on a house across the street. However, the boy is verysmall and the doorbell is too high for him to reach. After watching the boy's efforts for some time, the priest moves closer to the boy's position. He steps smartly across the street, walks up behind the little fellow and, placing his hand kindly on the child's shoulder leans over and gives the doorbell a sold ring. Crouching down to the child's level, the priest smiles benevolently and asks, ''And now what, my little man?'' To which the boy replies, ''Now we run!''
Introduction:
We come to the latter part of Proverbs 6, and we are going to investigate the area of integrity and morality. We are living in a day when it seems that many have turned from the principles that God laid down in His Word about the sacredness of family. Much of this can be laid at the feet of the media, which would include the television, internet, and the movie and music industry. If Satan can convince a society that there is nothing wrong with being a little unfaithful from time to time, he can end up destroying the family units, and thereby the church and the nation suffers! For a church, or a nation is only as strong as the families which consist in them!
In this passage, Solomon is speaking to us as a parent would instruct a son. He has seen much of what brings true happiness in life, and also what brings a temporary pleasure, and then ends up in disaster. In his mind, he must have relived some days of his own past, when his father David, and his mother Bathsheba gave him wise counsel as he headed out on his own in life! Now he is passing this teaching down to his children, and to us through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit of God. So let us start our study in verse twenty on how to maintain our in ...
