A certain mail order business majored in ''Do It Yourself'' products and received the following letter from one of its customers.

''I built a bird house according to your stupid plans and not only is it much too big. but it keeps blowing out of the tree, signed Unhappy.''

The mail order house replied, ''Dear Unhappy, we are sorry about the mix-up. We accidently sent you a sailboat blueprint, but if you think you are unhappy, you should read the letter from the guy who came in last in the Yacht Club race in a leaky bird house.''

You know as I look around I get the idea that a lot of people are sailing on the sea of life in a leaky bird house. They are miserable, unhappy, unfulfilled and discouraged.

But I believe that fulfillment and joy are characteristics of our Holy Religion - ''Joy Unspeakable and Full of Glory.'' Jesus said, ''These things have I spoken unto you that my joy might remain in you and that your joy might be full.''

Paul said the fruit of the spirit is joy. We all know that he secret of fruit bearing is abiding in Christ. If you do not have joy which is the fruit of the spirit, you have simply not entered into the heart of our Savior's sermon about the vine and the branches. If you, as the branch, are properly related to our Lord who is the vine, then joy will be as natural to you as singing is to a bird.

I do not believe it is possible for a Christian to lose his salvation, but I do believe that there are many Christians who have long since lost he joy of their salvation. There is no vitality there. There is no life there. There is no freshness of the spirit. There is not that spiritual delight that easily expresses itself in praise and adoration and worship. The joy is gone. Somebody has said that joy is the flag that is flown from the castle of the heart when the king is enthroned. Many of us give Jesus Christ a place in our lives. Others give Jesus Christ prominen ...
