For the last several weeks (and for another 4 weeks to come) we are talking much about the idea of 'church membership.' There is more to being a part of God's church than attendance. Christ came to give birth to the church, died for the church, and one day will return for her.
In his study, "Your Church Experiencing God Together", Henry Blackaby identifies the church as "A World Mission Strategy Center." Candidly, think about this: "What if every church and every person had the vision to reach people for Christ as we did, what would be the outcome? How long would it take to spread the gospel around town, let alone around the world?
In verse 7, we read that Jesus sent the disciples out 2 by 2 on a mission trip, this was a focused mission trip as in they had a purpose. He gave them specific instructions about what to do and what not to do.
May I say this, if Jesus means what He says (and I suspect that He does), each day as you go into YOUR CORNER of this culture, He sends you out with the same kind of instructions. "As you're going (since you're going to be out there anyway), make disciples. Instructions don't get much simpler than that. It doesn't matter what you were "told" when you chose to follow Christ, you could have been wrongly instructed, but Christ gives us both a command and commission to fulfill as His children. One of the reason churches are dying and the influence of Christianity is dying in this culture is that God's people have abandoned their calling. Does it frighten anyone else that 'if we don't give Jesus to our culture, then our culture is doomed to paganism? Every day we live, we are on a Mission trip for the Father.
And when we begin to view our lives as being "on mission" from the Father, some wonderful discoveries follow. Think about it: How many people have gone on Mission trips (Domestic and Foreign) o ...
