Don't you like that picture? In your mind's eye, can't you just see Jesus - laying His hands on the children, taking them into His arms, and blessing them? Isn't this what we want? Whoever you are, whatever is going on in your life, and however you may feel, one thing is sure, each of us desire to be embraced by the God of creation.

As I read this passage, I think of the adults and children who now find themselves in the presence of Jesus. I wonder who they are, where they came from, and what their story was. Quite likely, some had come a considerable distance. I suggest that took a journey from wherever they were to get to Jesus. I submit that it is always a 'journey' from where we are to Jesus. Our journey takes us from where we are to where HE wants us to be.

In our text we can learn four unique lessons from this story.

1) The Bringing of Souls - First of all, let's address 'souls' part. We talk little these days about the soul, unless it is involves mysticism or some other pagan approach to life and the afterlife. Yet, what makes you different from an animal is that you have a soul. In Genesis, God simply created the animals - but into mankind, He breathed the 'breath of life' causing man to become a living 'soul.' It is this soul that makes us different from the animals. You are a living and eternal soul. One day, if Jesus tarries, your body will give out and expire (die). Better said, your body will give up your soul for its eternal destination. In days past, the talk was about 'your soul's salvation.' Today we are more focused on the body's salvation (we try to do all we can to stay, look, and act young).

Guess what, your body is decaying, disintegrating, and dying. At the end, all that will be left is your soul. It is your soul that has hope of eternity. We need to see the souls of people.
