There's an old song and the hymnal whose first verse says, "Sing them over again to me, wonderful words of life. Let me more of their beauty see, wonderful words of life. Words of life and beauty, teach me faith and duty; beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life." Candidly, there's not much theology found in that first verse. In fact, humanist could take that verse and sing it for their very own, and quite likely, some are doing it because everyone desires life.

Everyone is searching for life and for the meaning of life. We look for life in relationships, money, prestige, and popularity. Humans are notorious for looking for life (like looking for love) in all the wrong places. The real wonderful words of life are spoken by the wonderful giver and creator of life. The authentic wonderful words of life speak more about eternity than they do time. Let read our text and glean a couple of words which we discover in it. (READ TEXT)

Did you catch all of that? Read the warning for those with attitudes like the Scribe found in that last line, "They will receive the greater condemnation." How in the world is Jesus speaking the "Wonderful words of life" thought this? Let me remind you that he is finishing a conversation with a scribe. The last thing he said to the scribe was, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." One of the things that we miss is that Jesus's only desire and task was to bring people from where they were into the kingdom of God. Try as they may no one could distract Him from that task. In this truth we find a benchmark for us today. People, both lost and saved-good and bad, will attempt to distract God's people and God's church from reaching the lost and discipling saved.
