Christ’s Final Earthly Call (70 of 70)
Series: Mark - God's Message for Today
Jerry Watts
Mark 16:9-20
I personally know a lady whose dad, while lying on his death bed, asked her to do something very specific - and also, very difficult. Today, he’s been dead for several years and she has been very faithful about completing this final request. At times, it is truly difficult and she wants to quit. However, every time she threatens to quit, she remembers her dad’s final words. Final words have a powerful impact.
It is obvious that Jesus wanted to make a ‘final and powerful’ impact on those with whom He had walked, taught, and called. His earthly ministry was now completed. He had lived, called, taught, and fulfilled the Father’s plan (I.E. being betrayed and abused, dying, being buried, and rising from the dead) - His work on earth was done, it time for Him to return to the Father. Before leaving, He wanted to give those who had committed to Him - a little more assurance, help, and even instruction that they could stand up to the opposition which was headed their way.
In His last acts, He was giving His followers, both then and for all times, their marching orders. I see 3 parts of what He was calling or better said, expecting or commanding them to do. Jesus wants all of us ‘to know, to go, and to show.’ What how this unfolds.

Then on Sunday, the rumor surfaced that ''Jesus had risen.'' Now as a matter of practice, dead people don’t do that, so the disciples were confused and afraid, not knowing what to believe.
2. If you survey the post-resurrection appearances of Jesus, you’ll discover that Jesus was all about belaying the doubt and fears of His followers. If you go back to verse 5, you discover that Jesus sent an angel to tell the woman what was going on and get them (th ...
