Genesis 27:30-40

Robin Motz, 68, an internal medicine doctor in Englewood, N.J. was accused of stealing more than $800,000 from his 94-year-old mother's savings account after taking over control of her finances as her power of attorney, leaving her in absolute poverty.

He spent the money on luxuries, travel to the Bahamas, Mexico, Hong Kong and his vacation house in Hillsdale, N.Y. His mother, a retired librarian, learned of her financial predicament when her condo levied a special assessment to cover the cost of rebuilding a retaining wall that had collapsed and she was unable to pay it.

When we are cheated out of what is rightly ours we feel betrayed.

Our natural reaction is to be angry and to fight back to get what was taken from us. You might want to just get back what was taken or take revenge on the person who took advantage of you.

Our emotions can take control unless we truly believe in the sovereignty of God over everything that happens in our lives.

Chuck Swindoll wrote, "In this final, sad scene, Esau fully comprehends that he cannot escape the Lord's sovereign design.

His earlier impulsive choice, his conniving mother and brother and now his passive father have sealed it for him. This last scene is downright tragic."

Jacob had no sooner left from receiving the blessing of his father Isaac than Esau came home with an animal he had killed.

He prepared a meal for Isaac which he had requested and expects to receive the blessing from him which he had been promised (:4).

This scene reveals the providence of God that one would walk out while the other would walk in as God divinely oversaw the events. Nothing happens without his approval and oversight in our lives.
