We're in this series we're calling Killing Karma, and karma is this universal principle that says basically you get whatever you deserve in life eventually. The Bible puts it this way. "Do not be deceived. God is not mocked for a man will reap whatever he sows." Whatever you sow, you're going to reap. The problem is we've all sown sinful actions, because nobody is perfect. We've all sinned, and karma rightfully says we deserve future punishment. But that's where Christ comes in. Christ killed karma when He died on the cross, and He instituted a higher law, grace.
So, we no longer have to get what we deserve. I no longer have to get the punishment I deserve, but I get what I could never earn or deserve, His grace, heaven one day, forgiveness, peace, joy, meaning. But the question is: If you're a Christ follower, are you still living as if you're under the curse of karma or are you living in that grace? See, God's grace is like rain, and it comes down constantly. You can't make it rain, and we can't earn or deserve the blessings of His grace, but we all have what I call a grace bucket. Well, really it's a faith bucket because by faith I can accept the grace that God pours out.
In fact, that's what salvation is. The Bible says, "For by grace you have been saved through faith. It's a gift of God, not of yourselves so that no one can boast." So salvation comes by God's grace. We can't earn it or deserve it. Heaven is a free gift, but we have to receive it, humble ourselves and put out our faith bucket, place our faith in His grace. Say, "God, I can't save myself so I've put my faith bucket out and put my faith in your grace. I don't deserve it but I accept it." And that's what salvation is.
But once you're a Christ follower, you have the choice every day as to whether or not you're going to put out your faith bucket and receive His undeserved blessings that keep raining down constantly. Now again we can't earn or deserve it. We can't make it rain. God's rain of blessings is coming down constantly, but God does say that we get to choose whether or not we put our faith bucket out to experience His blessings. See, we no longer have to obey God to prove that we're deserving of His love.
