Let’s turn to First Thessalonians Chapter 5. We have been preaching several messages on Bible prophecy and again this morning we are going to be talking about Bible prophecy and probably for a few more weeks in the service as well as in the Pastor’s Class.

Today we are speaking on the subject that we announced, “Is the Church Facing the Great Tribulation?”. Is the church facing the great tribulation? That’s a question people are asking today as they see the situation in the Middle East, as they examine the signs that Jesus gave of His coming.

As they compare what is happening in the world to what the Bible says about the end times, as they see crime increasing and as they see the problems of famine and earthquakes and wars multiplying, we ask the question are we facing the great tribulation.

Now in First Thessalonians 5 beginning in Verse 1 notice what Paul said to the people of his day who were concerned about those same issues. As a matter of fact there was a person, we don’t know who it was, but someone had written a letter to the church of Thessaloniki claiming to be Paul and had said to those people that they were living in the days of the coming of the Lord that they were already in the great tribulation.

And the people were confused and they were fearful and afraid and Paul writes to straighten out the false doctrine that had been expressed in a previous letter by a false prophet.

And he says, “BUT OF THE TIMES AND THE SEASONS, BRETHREN, YE HAVE NO NEED THAT I WRITE UNTO YOU. FOR YOURSELVES KNOW PERFECTLY THAT THE DAY OF THE LORD SO COMETH AS A THIEF IN THE NIGHT.

FOR WHEN THEY SHALL SAY, PEACE AND SAFETY; THEN SUDDEN DESTRUCTION COMETH UPON THEM, AS TRAVAIL UPON A WOMAN WITH CHILD; AND THEY SHALL NOT ESC ...
