Do you ever feel like that juggler who's always spinning the plates and he has all those plates spinning? Do you have a lot of plates spinning in your life? No? How about that? Okay. How's that one doing? You've got to keep them all spinning, you know? Do you ever feel like that guy who's just running around trying to keep it all from crashing to the ground? Got one that's slowing down ... Hey I think I've actually got them all going for a change. Nope. I've just got to keep them all going or they'll come crashing to the ground. How's this one? It's about to slow down. There. How about that? One plate starts to slow down, and maybe you disappoint somebody and you've got to work on that one, and then someone else is disappointed with you and you've got to run over and fix that situation, and then you're late for that real important thing you've got going there and then all of a sudden everything is falling down at work, but then your family, it's not going so great. Do you ever feel like that? That just stressed you out, didn't it?
Well, I'll be out of breath for the rest of the service. Sometimes I feel like the guy who's spinning all the plates, and you're running from one thing to the next, and you're worn out. You're stressed out. You're fatigued, but you're just trying to keep it all from crashing to the ground. Our lives get so complicated and overloaded, and what do we have to show for all the business and the stress? Broken relationships, overwhelmed and overloaded lives, and burned out emotions.
God founded the universe on the principle of balance. For example, the earth is in perfect balance as it rotates on its axis. If the earth moved away just a few degrees just slightly as it rotates on its axis, then we'd be burned up by the sun or we would freeze as it tilted away from the sun. But, the earth is in perfect balance as it rotates on its axis because God founded the universe on the principle of balance. And then he embedded within the Ten Commandments this powerful truth on how we can balance our lives and get off the road to burnout. And it's also how to reduce your stress and be more effective and productive. It's the Fourth Commandment.
So, open your Bibles to Exodus Chapter 20. Would you stand in honor of God's word? We're in a series on the Ten Commandments. We've been going through the Ten Commandments one by one, verse by verse.
