In First Corinthians 12 Verse 4 Paul is speaking about spiritual gifts. Now this is the second in a series of messages on "Growing an Effective Church". Look at the little diamond there on your outline, the baseball diamond.
We talked last week about membership and about how important membership was to deepen our faith, to grow our character, to make us like Jesus. It's important not only to believe but it's important to belong.
Now we're going to talk about spiritual gifts and every member being a minister. A church that has five thousand members ought to have five thousand ministers and the Bible gives us this truth in the light and in the context of spiritual gifts; that God has gifted every one of us to do a specific thing to build up the body of Christ.
The only way you can grow a church is for God's people to discover their gift and use their gift to bless one another and to bless a lost world. Now it says: "NOW THERE ARE DIVERSITIES OF GIFTS, BUT THE SAME SPIRIT. AND THERE ARE DIFFERENCES OF ADMINISTRATIONS, BUT THE SAME LORD. AND THERE ARE DIFFERENT KINDS OF WORKING, BUT IT IS THE SAME GOD WORKS IN ALL OF THEM."

Now as we think about maturity, growing in Christ, one of the things we have to do to grow in Christ is to understand what our spiritual gift is. When you are saved, God imparted to you three gifts. Number one He imparted to you the gift of eternal life.
Romans 6:23 says: "THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH; BUT GOD'S GIVE IS ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD." You didn't work for it. You didn't deserve it. You didn't earn it. You just opened your heart and received it. Jesus came to live in your ...
