Please turn to 2nd Thessalonians chapter 2. We're going to finish chapter 2 tonight, verses 13 through 17.
Now let me ask you a question. See if anybody knows history. I know we've got a history teacher in here, so he might know this. What is the state song of the State of Kansas? Does anybody know? What's that? "Hey, Jude?" No, that's not right (laughter). The state song of the State of Kansas - I didn't know this either. I looked it up today. It's the song, "Home, Home on the Range." That song was written and originally written as a poem in1873, and then it became a song, and then it became the state song of Kansas in 1947. Most of us are familiar with that song. "O, give me a home where the buffalo roam; where the deer and the antelope play," and it goes on from there. But the chorus, "Home, home on the range where the deer and the antelope play. Where seldom is heard a discouraging word and the skies are not cloudy all day." Now that's pretty cool. I've never lived on the range in Kansas, so I don't know about where seldom is heard a discouraging word and the skies are not cloudy all day. And maybe that was true in 1873 when that guy wrote the poem but I know in my world there are lots of discouraging words. And in my world there are lots of cloudy skies. And so for most of us, we would have to say, "You know it can be discouraging in this world. It can be discouraging at home. It can be discouraging on the job. It can be discouraging out in the community to live for the Lord," because the world is not for you; the world is against you. And you can look out and say, "Man, I see a lot of stormy, cloudy skies. The Scripture says, "In the last days difficult times will come, for men will be lovers of self, and lovers of pleasure, and lovers of money, and haters of good, and haters of God, and insolent, and irreconcilable, and ungrateful, and unholy."
