Mark 11:9-29
I.A DIFFICULT SITUATION
II. A DIVINE SOLUTION
Tonight if you have your Bible I'd like you to turn again to Mark Chapter 9. This morning we looked at the first ten verse of Mark Chapter 9 and tonight I want to begin in Verse 11.
This morning we talked about "With Jesus on the Mountain". Tonight we want to look at the subject "With Jesus in the Valley". Notice in Mark Chapter 9 Verse 11, Peter, James, and John along with the Lord after the transfiguration experience are on their way down from the mountain back into the valley where the other disciples are meeting.
So in Verse 11 it says, "AND THEY ASKED HIM, SAYING, WHY SAY THE SCRIBES THAT ELIAS MUST FIRST COME? AND HE ANSWERED AND TOLD THEM, ELIAS VERILY COMETH FIRST, AND RESTORETH ALL THINGS". Now what Jesus was referring to was that Elias or Elijah had already come in a sense in the person of John the Baptist, in the ministry of John the Baptist.
That was the spiritual fulfillment of that prophecy; however, Elijah would come literally. He would literally fulfill this prophecy at the return of Jesus to the earth. But now He turns their attention away from speculation about Elijah and when he would come into the world.
So in Verse 12 He says, "AND HOW IT IS WRITTEN OF THE SON OF MAN, THAT HE MUST SUFFER MANY THINGS, AND BE SET AT NOUGHT. BUT I SAY UNTO YOU, THAT ELIAS IS INDEED COME, AND THEY HAVE DONE UNTO HIM WHATSOEVER THEY LISTED, AS IT IS WRITTEN OF HIM."
Now then notice that having come back into the valley Verse 14 says, "AND WHEN HE CAME TO HIS DISCIPLES, HE SAW A GREAT MULTITUDE ABOUT THEM, AND THE SCRIBES QUESTIONING WITH THEM.
AND STRAIGHTWAY ALL THE PEOPLE, WHEN THEY BEHELD HIM, WERE GREATLY AMAZED, AND RUNNING TO HIM SALUTED HIM. AND HE ASKED THE SCRIBES, WHAT QUESTION YE WITH THEM? AND ONE OF THE MULTITUDE ANSWERED AND SAID, MASTER, I HAVE BROUGHT UNTO THEE MY SON, WHICH HATH A ...
