Mark 8:34-38
I.THE SOUL IS VALUABLE BECAUSE OF ITS NATURE
II. THE SOUL IS VALUABLE BECAUSE OF THEH PRICE
III. THE VANITY OF THE WORLD
IV. THE VASTNESS OF THE LOSS
This morning if you have your Bible I want you to turn in God's word to Mark Chapter 8 and I want us to look at Verse 34. I've been preaching sermons from the Gospel of Mark and again this morning I want us to look at the Gospel of Mark Chapter 8 Verse 34.
One of the most well known statements ever made by our Lord, I want to speak today from the subject, "Your Most Precious Possessions". I know we have possessions that are very precious to us. Certainly, those of us who are parents would say that our children are very precious.
We could not put a dollar value upon one of our children because they are far more precious than this world's wealth. We have our home, we have our church, we have our country and the privilege of living in this country, so many things we possess today. All of us in this building are rich in different kinds of possessions. Jesus in this passage talks about your most precious possession.
The Bible says in Verse 34, "AND WHEN HE HAD CALLED THE PEOPLE UNTO HIM WITH HIS DISCIPLES ALSO, HE SAID UNTO THEM, WHOSOEVER WILL COME AFTER ME, LET HIM DENY HIMSELF, AND TAKE UP HIS CROSS, AND FOLLOW ME.
FOR WHOSOEVER WILL SAVE HIS LIFE SHALL LOSE IT; BUT WHOSOEVER SHALL LOSE HIS LIFE FOR MY SAKE AND THE GOSPEL'S, THE SAME SHALL SAVE IT. FOR WHAT SHALL IT PROFIT A MAN, IF HE SHALL GAIN THE WHOLE WORLD, AND LOSE HIS OWN SOUL?
OR WHAT SHALL A MAN GIVE IN EXCHANGE FOR HIS SOUL? WHOSOEVER THEREFORE SHALL BE ASHAMED OF ME AND OF MY WORDS IN THIS ADULTEROUS AND SINFUL GENERATION; OF HIM ALSO SHALL THE SON OF MAN BE ASHAMED, WHEN HE COMETH IN THE GLORY OF HIS FATHER WITH THE HOLY ANGELS."
