This sermon includes the sermon outline and the full sermon transcript. Below you will see a preview of the outline and a portion of the full sermon.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."
John 1:1-5 (NIV)
• The Darkness of Doubt
• The Darkness of Disappointment
1. Christ's Light Leads Me to Redemption
"The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He came into the very world he created, but the world didn't recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him." John 1:9-11 (NLT)
"... for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." Romans 3:23, 24 (NIV)
2. Christ's Light Guides Me When I'm Confused
----
I remember going on a camping trip with my family as a kid, and we set up camp right next to a lake deep in the woods, and when the sunset and darkness set, in it was pitch black. I mean you couldn't see the hand in front of your face, but I remember looking up at the night sky and seeing the stars brighter than I'd ever seen them before. We were far from the city lights, and it was as if I was seeing God's lights for the first time, and there's a powerful truth in that, and it's this: the darker the night, the more God reveals His light, and we're in this series. Yeah, you can cheer for that because His light dispels the darkness, and some of you may be going through a dark night right now, and God wants to shed His light and His light of love into your life.
We're in this series on how to ditch secondhand religions, which is knowing about God, and moving to a firsthand faith, which is all about experiencing God daily on a deep level, but firsthand faith doesn't mean that you'll never go through dark days. We all go through dark days and difficulties, sometimes dead ends, but a firsthand faith is a relationship with the God who shatters the darkness, and so I want you to open your Bibles to John 1. And would you stand in honor of God's word and just read it out loud with me and help me out with this because we're studying John 1 today?
